Lennox Lewis gets credit for defeating every single man he faced in the ring so I think it does mean something. But like it's being said here, the fight does need to be significant, otherwise it would be pointless except maybe for the fighter getting "even".

It depends on the circumstances, Lennox Lewis was right to avenge his losses but Hopkins has left it too long and now it wouldnt be worthwhile beating up a past it RJJ

Having no un-avenged loses on your record is the next best thing to being unbeaten. So in terms of legacy, its a very big deal.

avenging a defeat is very important, it can make a fighter great

if a fighter lost who was undefeated for example
and came back and beat the fighter that he lost too, this is a mark of greatnes

Ali gets a lot of credit for being undefeated in rematches, and I think that contributes a lot to his legacy.

Another example might be Arguello/Fernandez. Alexis should have been able to beat Fernandez EVERY TIME OUT, but in the first fight I think he was looking past him to Duran, and screwed the pooch. Those kind of losses need to be avenged in my opinion.

By that I meant that Hatton is (still) clinging to the fact that he was ripped off by Cortez, causing him to box stupidly and get stopped.

It was a new thing thought up by the Joyboys as another excuse for Floyd not to fight Margarito.
They should all build a shrine to Mosley and pray to him everyday for getting Floyd out of that cowardly situation.

Boxing is full of bull**** and bafflegab most of which is comes from self appointed experts who have never put on a pair of gloves. In any other sport a loss is just a loss. In boxing a loss is explained, interpreted, translated, diagnosed and analyzed from here all the way to the ****in' moon!

It's good to avenge losses as it works wonders for a fighter's legacy, especially if they avenge all losses.
