I only ask because I watched Marquez v Diaz on dvd today, which was originally shown on Setanta. I remember the Setanta site getting flooded with requests to show it beforehand and that boxing angel or whatever it was got the fight and it was a classic. That was a happy night because I was so thrilled they showed it.

But anyway what is your best memory of watching live televised boxing? Anyone got any stories they wanna share? I'll begin.

It was 1996 and I was a horny 17-year old out on the lash one November night. I didn't have Sky but as I was trying to pull any bird going I kept reminding myself that Holyfield v Tyson (1) was on and I had to find a way to watch it. So a friend of mine who did have Sky and had pulled a sickie on us got his house gatecrashed at 3am as three of us came in to watch the fight. He wasn't impressed but he understood my need to watch it and I was one of the few who gave Holyfield a shot. As the fight unfolded I was jumping up and down like a daft kid as Holyfield beat the bully. My mate's Mum came down "what the **** is going on?" my response "Mike Tyson is getting the **** kicked out of him" she never liked Tyson and watched it with us and cheered on Evander too.

I went home that morning and begged my Dad to get Sky but he didn't cave.

All the Benn, Eubank, Watson fights on ITV were great memories for me. Watching Hatton "shock the world" as he beat Tszyu. Me in bed watching it, the missus asleep and I was trying my hardest not to shout him on.

    Over to you.

going back to my younger days I'd say:

    Eubank-Collins
    Eubank-Benn
    Benn-McClellan
    Eubank-Watson II
    McColl-Bruno
    Hamed-Barrera

There are of course plenty of others I could name from recent history.

Cotto v Margarito was tough to watch for me being a huge Cotto fan. I thought deep down he couldn't beat Tony M. Haven't watched that fight too often since :-(

Lewis vs Tyson was the first big fight I watched live. I remember expecting It to be an absolute classic, but ended up being thouroghly dissapointed. From then on, I have kept my expectations low.

Has to be watching Hopkins schooling Pavlik, it was wonderful to watch a brilliant old fighter dispose of a guy who many predicted would be the first to stop him. But the main reason that I was so happy was because I'd emptied my bank and put all of my EMA money on Hopkins as soon as I saw that he was a 4/1 underdog in my local bookies, I was £500 richer. :happy:happy

I mind that on Sky too. I was at a mate's house for that one too. There was about 8 of us and all fell asleep during the undercard. But me and a mate woke up and Sky decided to show Gatti v Ward 1 as a wee treat. Well chuffed.

Even though deep down I knew it was never going to happen, as the fight wore on I was getting increasingly anxious about the possibility of a 'Hail Mary' punch from Pavlik to somehow claw back the victory. Needless to say I was chuffed to bits at the final bell.

I'd say so though Benn-Eubank I would give it a good push.

Its sad that McClellan fight in sometime overlooked by some simply because of the tragic outcome.

    However, the fight was immense.

I was 14 at the time of that fight and worshipped Benn!

I also loved the Cotto-Margarito fight. I was a big Margarito fan at the time and I thought Cotto was over-rated, yet I never gave Margarito much of a chance. So when Margarito was catching up to Cotto I was jumping up and down (the only fight where I've ever done that,) and I was so full of adrenaline afterwards that I had to go out for a run and didn't get to sleep until about 10 in the morning.
