For me his fights with Yaqui Lopez and Eddie Mustafa Muhammad were toppers.

An obscure one I like is Ramon Ranquello.

RR was a club fighter, basically, but he had just upset Mike Rossman by TKO, with Rossman coming off the Victor Galindez rematch loss. So I’m pretty sure he got vaulted into the rankings. Spinks was like 10-0 so it looked like a good step-up fight for the rising prospect.

I don’t know if I’ve ever seen anyone completely destroy someone with a jab the way Spinks did in that fight. It was a freaking jackhammer.

It’s worth a watch if you haven’t seen it.

I pretty much love any fight with him at light heavyweight, he was a machine in that division

That's my favorite as well. Davis pushed him hard that fight.

I really wish someone would do a film study on Michael Spinks...his style was so awkward

Not being critical, just curious, why do you like the Qawi and Sears fights? Usually people say the Qawi fight was really boring.

The Qawi fight wasn't a punchathon, but there was a great tension the whole time about how long could Spinks keep the bull at bay. This fight more than any other showed just how intelligent Spinks was and how well he could carry out a really technical fight plan, throwing so few right hands and keeping Qawi away with just the left. Especially considering the death of his wife just a few weeks before, it was an amazing (more like heroic) moment of pure focus to the point of Zen.

The Sears fight I just liked because of the hype in the prefight on TV about how Sears was managed by the guy that played Paulie in the Rocky movies, Burt Ward. Spinks seemed almost an afterthought. Then after a couple rounds of letting the kid build up a head of steam he ends it emphatically in the third with one right hand.
