What's everybody's favorite Michael Spinks fights?

I love that KO, but I love Marvin more so it makes it hard to watch.

 

Qawi (nobody managed to shut down Qawi like Spinks did, imo), Johnson (if I recall Spinks lost the first three rounds, then he threw that uppercut), Eddie Davis was a bit too close for comfort.

"Like a deer with a broken leg", according to Larry Holmes.

 

I like that Holmes quote. He's not wrong.

 

To my knowledge, Burt Ward was never in any Rocky movies. He played Robin on the sixties Batman series and did several Batman-related things, cartoon voices and such, after that. Interesting that he managed David Sears.

I remember that Ramon Ranquello as being Spinks' coming out fight on network TV. He'd had a nice 1977, then largely put his career on hold when Leon won the heavyweight title. In that Ranquello fight Michael looked very impressive, as I recall, and it basically started him on the road to becoming an ATG light-heavyweight champ.

 

Just looked it up. It was Burt Young.

 

Ah, yeah, that make sense.

 

He had sort of a Marlon Starling type of defense...but with better footwork

 

Qawi. That little head dip to the left to slip Qawi's jab while landing his own was a thing of beauty. And it worked over and over. Beautifully disciplined.
