I've been thinking about buying one for when I can't go to the gym and use a regular heavy bag. Has anybody here ever used one before? If so, what's your opinion on it?

    Any links are appreciated :good

I've got a body opponent free standing bag that I've had for just over a year. They can be useful for combinations but get pretty annoying. I've had it against a wall and made a huge dent in the plaster (me being dumb). They have their place but are no substitute for a heavybag.

i think your talking about those lil stands you fill the base up with water or sand right, ive never used one of those, i have a free standing boxing bag stand, like this one...http://www.ringside.com/Heavy-Bag-S...m_medium=cse&utm_term=Ringside&utm_name=Heavy Bag Stands. I would recommend these stands for ppl who cant hang a boxing bag( i live in an apartment with a cement ceiling), there good for working combos, but they limit your movement, gotta be careful not to get in bad habits of moving straight back, and with really heavy punches, it moves, even with alot of weight on the racks..so id imagine those free standing ones falling over with heavy punches. i have my stand set so theres a wall behind it, so it dont move as much. I found mine on ebay for like 99 dollars but it was 120 shipping(bag not included).

That's almost exactly the reason why I need one. I was thinking that you could probably go to a contruction site though and get a big bag of tiny pebbles for cheap and fill the base with them so it doesn't move as much. Did you fill yours with water or sand?

I've had a Reebok Kombat Trainer for a number years (although I am Kickboxer) and with the base filled with water they are very sturdy for punching (does shift a bit with kicks). There is obviously a bit more movement on this specific bag as it is on a type of spring but this is good for your reflexes. Filling is foam which is ok to begin with but disintegrates over a few years.

I hate them. They move and fall fall over the place.
The sets they sell so you can hang a real heavy bag are better, but they take up a lot of space, and limit movement around the bag.

its better to get a heavy bag like the one in the gym you box at.But if your house doesn't have the space for that. Then you sould get a b.o.b bag, body opponent free standing bag, as opposed to just a regular freestanding bag.the thing i hate about the b.o.b bag is that the stronger you get the father it flies back lol.

Yeah, my friend has a free standing bag at his house filled full of sand at the base. I've used it a couple of times and can almost knock it down. I was thinking maybe about getting one of those stands that you can hang a bag with but i'm not sure how sturdy it is. I'm just wondering if its some cheap aluminum piece of **** thats going to get knocked down easily or if it's solid steel that would be impossible for anyone to knock down.

I have a free standing boxing bag stand, you just put weights on the base.

There pretty solid.. i've had to tighten the bolts on mine, but i use it a ton, i have a 75 pound bag, as long as you have wall behind it, it wont move too much, or you can screw it to the floor.

The Stands are **** IMO unless you buy one of the £500 sets and have 200kg of weights to stabilise it. I have used them before and they rattle and move all over the place unless you are a powder puff puncher....
