Against Robin Reid Froch's power prevailed. But a shot to pieces Reid found the target easily enough early on. Taking into account that Reid has good power I suppose I have answered my own question - Froch's chin is not too bad either. But given how ponderous Froch looked and how easily he was tagged I can't see him winning any kind of world title in the competitive SMW division.
He can be timed with counter rights as Reid showed and can be outworked. Not sure what else Froch has, he keeps his lands low like Roy Jones and Is a fan of Roy. He keeps flat footed so he can use his power too.
He is actually pretty decent boxer, not the greatest but good enough for him to cause people an headache or two.
i have seen froch fight live a couple of times, and like you say he has great power, i think hes reasonably accurate but has a poor defence and workrate, someone like joe calzaghe would swarm him IMO but hes reasonable, he could quite possibly win a world title before long
I like the guy,i think he was worried about the knee when he fought Reid and you will see an altogether better performance this time out.I think a world belt is within his range and i hope he gets one.
His bark in my opinion is worse than his bite. Carl is talented but his not half as good as he thinks he is.I remember when he fought Charles Adamu. He just ate right hands all night as his left was dangling so low. He has tons of belief though and may make some noise in what is a relatively thin division but id like to see him get his hands up.
Wouldn't be surprised to see him get one of the 4 straps. But, although i'd like to see them of course, he should avoid fights with Kessler, Bute and maybe even Andrade.
Froch has a bad defence? Against Magee. he had a snapped thumb and yet still semi-decent Brian left on a stretcher and an oxygen mask. Reid, once a world champion who took Calzaghe to a close split decision landed a couple of right hands... whats the amazement in that ? If you watch froch closely, you will see the heaviest hands in the division, coupled with excellent accuracy. He can punch straight through a defence and there aren't many at any weight that can do that other than Haye and Cotto. He has a rakish reach and can punch around targets as well as through them too. People may call him this and that, but fighting him is a boxer's worse nightmare.
There's a lot of truth in there, but fighting JC would be his worst nightmare. I see him winning a belt, as a fight with Joe will never come off.
He has good physical tools. Tall and a really long reach (something like 78" I think) - good power jab on ocassions, great power and good chin. He is already in love with his power though and it will hold him back.
