He's a good fighter, but I don't think he's got what it takes to be great. He'll probably win a belt of some sort.
Good timing, sense of distance, very good accuracy and punch variety (especially good uppercut and bodywork), excellent chin Weaknesses are he plants his feet to get that power, which makes him more predictable. As a result he's also a bit flat footed, and fails to get out of range quickly enough. Defense is a bit dodgy, his hands are down but his reflexes aren't as great as he thinks to make up for it. Can also go looking for hayemakers, which leaves him prone to being outworked
Froch has a good reach and seems to go in and out of range whilst throwing his shots that`s why he appears to not have a good defence. It would be interesing to see how good he is against Kessler but I reckon on the Calzaghe showing Kessler would outwork him.
the reid who froch faced was miles apart from when he faced JC, his conditioning was not there for a start.:hi:
Good power, good chin, decent timing and accuracy; not too sure how his stamina will hold up in a tough 10/12 rounder against a good pressure fighter who also has a chin. Nowhere near as good as he thinks he is (I don't think there has been a boxer born who is as good as Froch thinks he is), but still good enough to pick himself up a belt. However, he needs to get a move on.
Berrio's a good replacement. Cannot wait for this fight. I have me Froch by K-O. Froch's a confident fighter. He likes to intimidate his opposition. He'll go strong from the get-go and Berrio's chin will fold. Only chance Berrio has is to start tactically, respond aggressively to Froch's aggression and go back to tactical once Froch's been pacified. The strategy he employed against Bute will do just fine.
I think Froch is pretty good in all departments (very good in others), but two areas let him down. 1. The low left hand. A 'Kostya' right hand would have him counting stars. 2. Footwork. Often caught on his heels rather than his toes. Perhaps he hasn't been tested sufficiently to have to use this, no doubt time will tell. He is pretty hittable, but I don't mind seeing a 'prospect' (if you can call him that, at 30) getting tagged and being able to take a punch. Being decked didn't do Ricky Hatton or Joe Calzaghe any harm, and we will see what happens to Amir Khan over the next couple of years.
Froch has got really good power but he has other things too. Sometimes his footwork can be quite good. He is messy but very awkward and unorthodox. He is just a tricky customer with some good strength and power. An experience and well schooled operator will best him though. A technical thinker will make him pay for his horrid flaws.
Kessler's accuracy with the right hand will put Froch off balance because of Froch's stupid guard. Once Carl's off balance Kessler can follow up with a combination to put Carl on his arse.
Froch's been just as good as he needed to be. Seems to me he's one of those fighters who fights better against better opposition. Don't sell this guy short just yet. He won't turn the division upside down, but he'll be in the mix, just you wait.
Froch has a decent punch but I dont think it has been tested yet against someone who has the work ethic, commitment and desire to fight back yet. We'll see how good he is at dishing out the punishment when he steps up a level so his next fight should be interesting. Apart from his power I dont see how anyone can judge him yet as he hasn't really fought anybody of substance and by that I mean someone showing a willingness to fight back! The Robin Reid fight was a joke, Reid was so far past it and was blowing out of his arse after a couple of rounds. I dont think he would have beaten Reid in his prime, he was tough in his day and could dig IMHO!
