    Agree mate.

Choc was never exciting really but he made up for it with outlandish statements. It's a shame Gealey doesnt get more recognition, I reckon even if he beat Martinez most Aussie wouldnt give a rats about him... sad really

I agree that footy is what got Choc a start, but his continued self-promotion has kept him there. Even the hardcore Aussie boxing fans give him the attention he craves.

If Geale doesn't want to change he doesn't have to, but neglecting to promote oneself is simply lazy. All he has to do to raise awareness is to keep mentioning his association with Mundine ... stuff like "Mundine was lucky to get a SD and when a rematch was ordered he ran away rather than face me" and "I'm willing to fight Mundine next to right the wrong done to me (even if he has no intention of it)". If he repeated this often enough in the lead up to his fights he would no doubt get greater exposure, especially with the responses that are sure to come back from Choc. Instead much of the public don't even know fought. No-one's saying he has to wear gold undies and facepaint like Paulie M to get attention but he's gotta do more than he currently is to set himself and his family up for life post boxing.

As for Tszyu, what whipsy said.

No doubt, but would his self promotion had of done anything if he began boxing as a nobody?
    Probably not I'd suspect.

Boxing is nothing in this country, it's football and football only which gave Mandy the kickstart.
Of which the majority are also hard core football fans.
How is it lazy? It takes a lot of time and effort to wank on to the media if you don't have what it takes.
Geale doesn't have the gift of the gab, he struggles to even talk when a camera is on him.
He's a genuine normal quiet guy.
Hang on, he has done that quite a bit in the lead up to his last few fights.
A few on here felt it didn't even go down to well, including myself.

Some feel he needs to distance himself from Mandy, again, myself included.

You can't have it both ways.
And as I said, maybe, maybe not.
Time will tell, but personally I think there's not much he needs to do other than fight.

In any case, why must he set himself up for life post boxing? I mean sure, that's a great ambition to aspire to, but how many actually achieve it?

Geale does a lot of coaching and work with kids at the Grange right now I believe, so I'm sure his post boxing career will have plenty of work for him to keep plodding along.

He probably won't end up with the same bank balance as Mandy, but I doubt he'll end up a drunken bum in the gutter either.

I was out but gotta say

mate I showed quite simply how 'nice guys' Green and Soliman sell themselves. Also on the big scene guys like 'Sugar' Shane Mosley, Klitchko's, Pacman. Bove being great boxers they have character. This character creates entertainment.

Like contendo said, along with other aspects ODH carried himself well, now part of this is wearing shirts that fit, or are tucked in.

If you don't get it you never will.

Looks like Daniel Geale is taking your advice. From the Scene >>>

"Geale was laughing when he heard Mundine was going to make his American debut by facing 41-year-old Bronco McKart on July 14th in Las Vegas".

"Everybody I've seen comment on his opponent is almost in fits of laughter about it." Geale said.

Johnny Boy is on the mark. Geale must make the most of his fued with Choc. Danny Green was a household name in Oz well before they fought because he was seen as the saviour who was going to destroy the loud mouth and prove that Choc was all hype and no substance.
I have mates who buy all Choc's fights because they don't want to miss it if he gets ko'd. These same blokes would'nt buy a Katsidis or Vic fight if there life depended on it.
The average punter does not know the difference between a welter and a middle weight, thier boxing knowledge is learned from newspapers and Rocky movies.
Hardcore boxing fans appreciate what Geale has achieved but there are not enough of them in Oz to make him the money he should be earning.

Depends what hat you are wearing. As a manager, you make sense. As a fan, i like that he doesnt chase after choc. The sooner that con is gone, the better.

Choc announced his retirement from footy and didn't pause with his self-promotion. Wasn't he waving around an Ali biography as he was driving off to contemplate his life after footy.

The hardcore footy fans who gave Choc a start but what's kept him there? All of us, even though he was exposed on the world scene a long time ago. Us hardcore boxing fans continue to get baited into diverting attention to him. The latest example is the pedicure ****.

If he distances himself from Choc as you recommend, how do you suggest he market himself? As one of 6 or 8 or whatever middleweight world champs? He would need to become the undisputed middleweight champ to get some attention and decent $$$ if he carries on as he has. And to be frank, there is no way that will happen even if he's given the opportunity.

Geale doesn't have to set himself up but he's an idiot if he doesn't want to. Mundine's a household name and he chooses not to exploit their history to his advantage. He will eventually learn that after he's retired all of the pats on the back mean nothing; he can't pay his mortgage nor give his kids the best opportunities in their life with pats on the back. He will be quickly forgotten, with his fans moving on to somebody else for entertainment.

In retirement he could continue teaching boxing to kids if that's his passion and also have millions stashed away earning interest. Being a quiet and nice guy doesn't mean you can't promote yourself. Look at how Chauncy does it - on forums such as this one at his own pace. I didn't even know Geale had his own website until I just looked it up. Nothing's been updated there for over 2 months. Why would anyone want to continue going back there. Is he at least current on his facebook and twitter pages and what is he doing to generate interest?

    :good
For someone who is branded as being far from intelligent, Mundine sure did a good job at impersonating intelligence when it came to knowing how to market himself and get media time and recognition.... Pedicure.....He will be sitting at home today laughing away...

Geale has it all in terms of skills but he is lacking personality, the avergae joe and even hardcore boxing fans don't take much interest because he is boring as bat ****.... I'm not trying to be derogatory towards him because I do like and respect him and wish him all the best but those are the cold hard facts... He does need Mundine to make more of a name for himself.. where would greeny be without his rivalry with Choc for all those years??

He makes status updates occasionally on his facebook, but its usually stuff like, Happy Mothers day or happy anniversary to his wife, Boxing related stuff is really only mentioned close to his fights, He could be marketing himself a lot better

Green has made his so called money off the backbone of Mundine so some of you say. Geale went 50/50 against dean then dean ducked and weaved his way to a lesser level to avoid a mandatory with the Man!

Green should get behind Geale oh but that's right he wants to avenge his loss and ca$h in 'again' :verysad
