We really dont know that to be sure, but Froch did prove alot with his tough schedule. Froch was 31 when he first went for a world title. I always thought Froch was a bit past his best when he first won his world title, let alone defend it. Now he is 36, an age when many other SMWs seem faded or retired ie Collins, Eubank, Calzaghe, Benn, Ottke. I thought the S6 did more harm than good to Froch as an older SMW. He was the oldest in the (original) group has had several tough fights previously and the constant going on the road and travelling for the S6 appeared to get to him (understandably). I thought he was exhausted at the end and you can see why, Froch had arguably the toughest S6 schedule He fights Dirrell at home Kessler in Denmark Abraham in Finland Johnson in America Ward in America. Consider that Froch was away in his fight before Dirrell, and that was against another original S6 fighter. So out of the 6 original S6 fighters Froch fought all of them and Johnson, and was away for 5 out of those 6 fights and im sure that takes its toll on any fighter, then Froch fights Bute straight after who Ward didnt fight. That is impressive but I think it took its toll on him a bit, though he did score arguably his best win against Bute and seemed a bit refreshed when facing Mack. Home advantage does seem a big help at SMW. Groves now is 25 and coming into his prime, without appearing to have too much wear and tear, has fought at a good steady level in Adamu, Anderson, DeGale, Smith, Johnson and may just be coming into his own. Styles often make fights. I always thought Bute would have been a tough fight for Ward with Butes, power, movement, speed and would have picked Bute to beat Ward, but Froch was a different story all together as his tough chin just went right through Butes power shots
So good to see someone who loves the sport for its own sake But TBH Froch should should be able to destroy Groves, I really don't get why so many people seem to think Groves has a decent chance. He's been wobbled against far lesser opponents than Froch, has a leaky defense and gets dragged into wars of just the sort that'll favour Carl - I honestly wouldn't make it closer than about 80/20 in favour of Froch. Now, I'm not saying GGG beats Froch but more me he's actually a lot more dangerous an opponent than Groves, and this is a fight that I too, really want to see in 2014, though I simply wanna see it 'cos I think it'ld be a fantastic challenge for both and a potential FOTY.
Very true, also Froch's world class power is a overrated, only stopped 3 opponents out of his last 10. If Groves has one weakness on fight night it will be Adam Booth missing from his corner.
At the end of the day to beat Froch you have to tough it out in some parts, just like ward did even though he was a clear winner. Froch is hard just to completely outbox because of his awkward style. Can groves tough it out? I dont think so.
Its tough to knock out the elite fighters, thats why most of the best boxers ko ratio lowers through their careers. Groves isnt and gets sparked.
Froch is a slow motherf.cker with a granit chin and some power. Groves is faster and a better boxer in my opinion. He has a fragile mandible though. It will be fun to watch. I think Groves pulls it.
Compare their respective performances against the ghost of Glencoffe Johnson. Who did better? People are dismissing Groves too easily.
This chin stuff is exaggerated imo. Yes Froch has a great chin and yes Froch is likely to beat Groves but Groves has the power and speed to knock Froch out. I'm just not sure if he has the skill to avoid getting sparked himself first.
Not necessarily. Pacquiao got KO'd early in his career then went on to have a great career. Groves is expected to get KO'd. It's not like Bute who was hyped and expected to win. Many people don't think Groves deserves to fight Froch. He's lucky to have the chance and has nothing to lose. Froch has everything to lose.
