If Usyk had turned into a pro only after he was 32 years old most likely he did not had any single belt. Usyk even didn't had fast track under uncle bob, he initially had to prove in europe that he is watchable, is able to stop pro boxers in distance in 9 fights in single row to get a title fight vs Glowacki in Poland. Vs tickets seller.
Hes not though. He was fighting 126 as a full grown man in is mid 20s. He could probably still make 126 at a push. Guys like Lopez, Linares, Campbell,Nakatani, Haney are all 10-15lbs naturally bigger than him.
For 126 lbs division I think enough tough ad a bit too small even for 130 lbs division. He was 26 years 4 months old when he had weighted in at 125 lbs for fight vs Russel Jr. Not large guy.
Why do you believe he has trouble with the bigger guys? He stopped Lineras. He did well when he decided to throw punches against Lopez. Believe me, I critisized Loma for his performance on the Lopez fight, but facts are facts. He may have won that fight if he just started sometime in the first half. He even managed to hurt the bigger guy. Size had nothing to do with his loss to Lopez.
Hope he gets a fight in and a rematch with Lopez before going down to 130. He’s still a top LW but is giving up way too much size to the top fighters at the weight. Lopez would not be small at 140 and Loma can still make 126 without being drained. Think about that, no other top LW can make 126 without starvation.. I’d like to see him drop down and get a fight with Stevenson and work to unify at 130. I’d also like to see a Tank Davis fight at 135 if Tank’s handlers take off the training wheels. Tank isn’t a top LW but he has a big mouth and it would be a good fight. Loma has called him out for years but Tank has responded with garbled mumbles (I think he said no but can’t tell without subtitles). Loma has the skill to beat top guys at 135 but he’s getting old and fighting much bigger guys is taking a toll on his health. It’s only going to get worse as he gets older. At his natural weight, he still has no competition. I can’t understand how someone who says he likes boxing doesn’t like Loma. He will fight anyone, usually fights bigger guys, always comes in well prepared and in shape and he has the highest ring IQ in the game. The only thing he lacks is great size and one punch KO power at his current weight. At his natural weight around 130, he can knock out any top fighter.
He was arguably losing the Linares fight when it was stopped. At the very lest it was razor close. Do you think if Lopez and he were simiar size he'd have been so gun shy? I dont even totally buy the argument about how he came on late. When Lopez opened up in the 12th, he was getting the better of it. Why fight at a weight category above where he should be? Mayweather fought a few fights at 154, but he didnt stick arond there, because whywould he if it wasnt for huge money?
I agree with most of your comments but the Linares fight was not close. Loma got careless on one round and suffered a flash knockdown but he was dominating Linares. I heard the cards were close but that’s typical boxing. It was never a close fight. Also, Floyd was smart. He never faced a prime fighter with a significant weight advantage. He fought Canelo but ginger was still green. When Winky Wright was being negotiated, Floyd insisted on a strict max hydration clause and Winky refused. Fighting guys was a 10 or 15 pound weight advantage (at LW) is dangerous. After a rematch with Lopez and maybe a fight with Tank or one of the top young guys, I’d like to see Loma finish his career at his natural weight.
Yeah. His business plan was to maintain famous 0 in his fight record. He was smart to know what thing is better to sell for casual customer. Clenelo too does knows this, for example books bulked up welterweight and when he KOs him, his dumb fans are yelling how good boxer clenelo cherry picker is. LoL. Sadly clenelo does have a draw and loss on his fight record so name must be polished by cherry pick more carefully.
Loma is giving up nowhere near that much size, he’s a full fledged LW at this point. He’s been there for 3 years. At the 30 day weight check for the Loma-Campbell fight, Luke was 147.4 and Loma was 144.5. So a month out they were separated by a whopping 2.9 pounds. By comparison, for Haney’s last fight vs Gambia, Haney was 143 at the 30 day weight check...1.5 pounds lighter than Loma was for Campbell a month out. So, no Loma isn’t this small LW his fans desperately want to make him out to be. And I think Loma is more than capable of deciding what weight class is best for him.
Campbell does have better reach than Loma and looks considerably larger than Loma. I did not had predicted that he will won Loma on points but had high chance like 50/50 that he might drop Loma down, then again etc alike.
Loma and his team knew he was behind after the 8th 9th round. So, Loma had to fight accordingly. I don't think Loma would have been that aggressive in the later part of the fight if he was up a few rounds.
Of course, if you bear in mind cards for EE origin fighter vs western fighter I have no doubts about biased scoring as norm in the west. Biased commentators and beautiful cards. For example to comment in nice manner when a side kid moves, all these socrecards, funny was Khan vs Canelo fight. When canelo even just moves, ohh, wow, ohh, omg. Canelo lands on guard : ohh ( believe me, laughable reaction ) and even if lands and miss a punch, how laughable were commentators in Khan - Canelo fight. All is known who is a side and . LOL. With Linares fight I think it was different cos if he didn't had finished Linares in distance, he had high risk to get next " flash KD " and then next " flash KD " and then.
Nakatani, cos he does have better reach than Lopez and is more fresh than Campbell, there yeah, I gave him high chances to win vs Loma on cards. For Linares and Campbell I had opted, that if they will won vs Loma, then in distance not on cards.
The discussion is about whether Loma has the size to compete at 135 or not. Not about bad refs or judges. If that's the case, then it really doesn't matter what weight he fights at, now does it.
I think that no because modern boxers does cut a lot and dudes like Campbell and Nakatani will have significant reach advantage. Yeah, Campbell who had managed to drop for a count Garcia who is pretty large and athletic guy for this weight class, did not had managed to land on Loma like this. This doesn't eliminate chances that if he had landed like this on Loma, there KD will not had happened and maybe even 2 or 3 KDs in fight. Linares. While he from my opinion had clearly lost fight on normal cards, was able to push Loma back in some moments when he had landed on guard. Also I don't think that KD for Loma was just accident, Linares is experienced. He had real chances to achieve next and next KD. Nakatani reach had gave damn a lot problems even for Lopez and this boxer ( Nakatani ) is more fresh than Campbell. Why he can't use this with a glance vs Loma? If he is in good shape and does have good night this might help him for example to win via decision vs Loma or drop Loma. Since if discussing reach, then I think 126 lbs or at least 130 lbs division looks more suitable.
