Seems like "high work rate" is the consensus on these boards. But for people that think this I have a question. Do you really think fighters are going to throw nonstop while getting hit with counters? Contrary to belief Floyd isn't feather fisted. It's been proven time and again that when getting hit with counters a fighters work rate goes down. Fighters become weary of Floyd's counters, Floyd makes his opponent think about what they're going to get hit with when they get close and once Floyd has you thinking its goodnight.
do you think floyd would be countering when getting hit with a high work rate? he's never really fought anyone with a high work rate, so we don't know.
Someone who understands boxing just as much as he does. I think people are discrediting the sport when they say all a fighter has to do is exhibit a higher work rate then Floyd, easier said then done. As good as a counter-puncher/boxer Floyd is, you have to be able to box.. The Mayweather's themselves(Roger) will tell you this.. Anything Floyd does to counter, there are things that can be done to negate that. I've always felt that a sound technical boxer with good natural ability and heart will give Mayweather the most problems
Someone operating on his talent and ability level....Wiht a style that causes him problems.. A southpaw fighter. Who has speed, stamina and intelligent pressure. Someon who will be hard to anticipate b/c Floyd is as good as he is b/c he can "anticipate" what his opponent will do next. Someone with size, pwer and strenght advantage would help, but not necessary. Someone who will pressure Floyd for a full 12 rounds. And with all that its still not a gurantee he'll take a loss. But it would be a very good possibility. If he signs on to face Manny we could see Floyd's first loss.
A guy with a great jab long arms jab good hand speed who can counter with good defense good footwork and with decent pop good stamina and attack the body. You must have a jab in order to beat PBF. I don't know how many times I have to stress this. Currently there really isn't a fighter from 160 and down who has all of these attributes with the closest being Alexander but he lacks the reach and is smaller. A prime Cory Spinks would have given PBF fits as well.
Floyd is great at measuring distance, you're not going to just hit him with punches. You need something to close the gap and footspeed aint the answer because Floyd's timing is to great for that. Timing and great sense of distance is why you cant just wing shots at him. There is always a chance to counter when punches are being thrown. He's not going to sit there an play defense all night, too smart for that.
A legitimately good swarmer, with a high workrate, good power, technique, chin, and stamina. If Pac could actually infight i'd say he would be ideal.
