Symph, get a guy in there against Floyd who fights like the middleweight version of James Toney. Strong physical inside fighter who can take punches and has spectacular inside defense and can throw intelligent volume. Toney had his limitations of course but he had the tools on the inside to bring most people down.
Lots of questions. (Not sure why you think an opponent throwing 850 gets stopped, btw) Floyd thrives on the predictability of his opponents so setting no particular pattern in your attacks, throughout the bout, would be key (I have already alluded to this in a previous post). Anyone who just stands in front of Mayweather, either clueless or physically unable to reach him gets walked over. To outbox FMJ you need to be a technician like FMJ. Otherwise, it's like taking a knife to a gunfight. There are no Boxers in realistic reach of FMJ (if any), who could match his technical ability. Relative success against Mayweather has been achieved by pressure fighters. But none, except for perhaps Castillo have been able to maintain their offensive. I'm not sure who can.
This. I think Inorder to beat him you need to just simply be better. Currently nobody is, therefore he'll retire undefeated.
Here we go again...Manny Pacquiao will beat Floyd Maywether Jr. I'll be so glad when it finally happens so we won't see anymore "Blueprint for beating Mayweather" type threads. MARK MY WORDS. I'M SAYING THIS ON JUNE 24, 2010. IF THEY EVER FIGHT, MANNY PACQUIAO WILL BEAT FLOYD MAYWEATHER JR.
Agree. The fighter needs great defense, but James was not fleet of foot enough to deal with someone who has Floyd's footspeed.
Void schools him easily; emmanuel's name won't even be in fantasy H2H match ups against the greats of the past anymoar once Void is done with him.
I think the common logic is an aggressive fighter with high work rate, etc etc. I have a different take as I think it would be more likely that someone who is ultra athletic and has the skill to outbox him. I think that many fighters Hatton, Judah, Castillo, Corrales, Shane try to press Floyd and end up playing into his hands, because this is the common logic. Now is there a fighter who can out "Floyd" Floyd, I don't know, but I don't see the workrate, punching power, chin being as important as someone who is as patient, skilled, and has the natural athletic ability to box with him. Now if this hypothetical fighter could also punch and had similar endurance and a solid chin it would be even better (better in terms of their chances). Slick, athletic, patient, good defense, along with the ability to punch and be efficient with their punches would have a chance to win a decision especially as Floyd gets older.
It's ok sitting here and drumming up all the attributes that are needed to beat Mayweather. But the question is - which fighter out there possesses these? None! It'll be 10 years or more before we get to see a guy who is blessed with all these abilities we're fantasizing about. It's precisely this reason why many of us on here have touched on intelligent aggression and persistent work rate. Because there are fighters out there currently that can utilize this well enough (Pacquiao for example). But at the same time, yes we can't make the mistake in thinking this aspect(s) alone is what's needed to steal a fight from Floyd.
This here is the truth more especially point B. And fortunately or unfortunately depending on which side of like or hate your on, there is nobody in the game south of 154 who is better at point B than him
