I'm orthodox and while it is a home run punch, I usually only find success with my right hook on the inside or when my opponent is shelled up and I can step into it. Otherwise I feel I leave myself too wide when I throw it and can end up looking like Michael Katsidis when I throw them (getting battered, yes, but also how Kats used to cuff his hooks on the inside, making them more a hybrid of a "strook")... but that's just me personally.

    Overhand right.

The right hook, in an orthodox position, shouldn't really exist and is awkward as hell to land unless you really really loop it.

Right hook is useless from orthodox imo

    Except on the inside

Every once in a while you get a fighter with a good right hook from the orthodox, but unless you are mechanically just strong that way, overhand right is the way to go more than 9 out of 10 times. Easier leverage, more range, more likely to have shocking impact on an opponent. Left hook overhand right are usually the power shots of an orthodox that land. Right hook has a few uses but isn't nearly as practical, inside and flurries and maybe when you slip under and outside of a taller man's jab and hook to his body. If you are the much shorter man you might find it in your best interest to stay close where the right hook has some use.

That's what I was thinking. If you arm punch it's weak and ineffective (but with better range...such as it is).

And to get any kind of leverage you have to sort of drop your right hand, then turn your hips, then throw the punch.

    Yes.
Its the shortest distance from pt. A to pt. B.
Looping punches have less power and easier to see.
    Straight right much harder.

Right hooks probably used least, but it's great to use against another orthodox style guard. Floyd landed 3 consecutive right hooks on Cotto cuz Cotto never changed positions, he thought his high ear muffs guard would only be susceptible to uppercuts like he's always been, but Floyd just kept punching around his guard with the right hook, I forgot what round it was. Especially if your a master of feinting, like Floyd is, you can get away with that and you don't have to set it up with a jab.
