Chauncey don't go for the kill all to often, but if he had Wilder hurt, you could rest assured he'd use his insane stamina to chop down that tree. And Messer would have a good chance of hitting the lottery with a prediction like that. Welliver hasnt been down in almost 400 rds of professional boxing. He's lost a couple close decisions lately that have given him pause to consider challenging for the HW title, but make no mistake, he hasnt been hurt in any of his losses over the past few yrs. Welliver just wrapped up 5 wks of sparring with Boystov and Pulev. He's lost several big pounds and back below 275. (Still way to big, but getting there). In 4 months time, when he's a first time father, and the reality sets in that babies are expensive, he'll get back to work on prizefighting, and we can rest assure that Wilder is in his sights.:think
Welliver never faced a dangerous puncher is why he's never been down. The biggest puncher he's faced is a lazy Solis, and Solis was well on his way to dropping Welliver before the ref rescued him. Wilder could drop him. Welliver does not have the power, reach, movement to be dangerous to Wilder.
Probably someone like Brian Minto or Danny Batchelder. And he'll say the fight is a matchup of "Elite American Heavyweights." Much like Liakhovich was a "Top Russian Heavyweight." :!:
Wilder wouldn't fight a live opponent like Arreola. It would be more like somone like 44 year old Oleg Maskaev , who apparently Wilder is considering as an opponent. And that would be a step up for Wilder. Arreola KO 1 Wilder.
Smokin' Joe Frazier might have been a possibility :blood, but he's a bit past it even by DWs standards :yep
Wilder couldn't get permission to dig Frazier up out of his grave............. Perhaps a rematch with Sconiers? Wilder does not have to fight anyone ranked, he gets ranked without fight anyone ranked. Wilder's best win was most likely the woman he beat up and strangled?!
I don't believe Arreola wants the Wilder fight, he believes he is a level above him and apparantley was angered he had to fight Mitchell, who he also felt he was a level above. I think he proved that to be correct. I think he should press for a Wilder fight it would be picked up by cable and would fast track the winner a shot at Klitschko. I don't know how much longer Wilder can keep fighting tomato cans. I know Klitschko likes him and mentions him as a future opponent but his resume is pathetic.
Actually, Wilder is ranked #3 WBC without fighting anyone ranked at all, but this could allow him a fight with Vitali Klitschko who is WBC champion. Looks as if Don King has KO'd Stiverne, has Stiverne in court, will not allow him to fight anyone, so that leaves #2 Arreola, whom Vitali has already stopped, then their is Wilder at #3 WBC, easy knockout for Vitali, plus Vitali has a iron chin..........................that fight would be on USTV for sure..........
I'm not sure Vitali is going to fight again but if he does, that does seem plausible. If Stiverne can't fight. I seriously doubt Wilder with get in ring with Vitali but yes that would be big fight. Especially with the farewell factor to it for Vitali and America trying to reclaim a belt.
I've seen twitter rumors that Wilder's manager Jay Deas has been seen with a shovel searching through graveyards for Wilder's next opponent. But even the corpse of Joe Frazier would be too risky for the pampered, over-protected Deontay. Someone on another site said Wilder is in discussions with old Smokin' Bert Cooper for a February fight, but I think he was just joking. Bert Cooper actually does have a fight scheduled, against another old guy nearly age 50.
DW could have another former title holder/contender "win" vs a name opponent to go along w/Liak & Harrison. Is DW stepping up? :yep
