i just read on box rec that james kirkland has two upcoming bouts one on the under card of tha hatton vs pac fight he will be fighting mike walker 19-1 and later in august he will be fighting Sergiy Dzinziruc 36-0 from germany but never has fought in America. Also not to many names on his resume that are reconizable. I was hoping to see Kirkland in a world champion ship bout by August. This guy has real talent and is hungry. He is ready for a title shot.

Kirkland looks a bit limited skill wise but clearly has decent one punch power. His record is decent for a fighter at that stage in their career but I would say he will have to take a step up in level in 2010.

He will get a title shot at 154 by summer 2010 unless he loses before then but I dont think he will. He reminds me of Andre Berto only with more power.

I think Berto is much faster P4P and more skilled on the other hand Kirkland looks to be more durable.

I am glad Kirkland is not getting to much hype like what Valero is getting. He should just continue to make stead progress avoiding tomato cans and move up the ranks. A title shot in 2010 is realistic.

Title shot by 2010 is a good move... the guy is only 25 years old, and has scores of potential.... I already have him rated high at 154 strictly based on his style, stamina and chin... but with experience and more defense the guy could do A LOT ... I am excited to follow his career.

Let's be honest, except the fact that Kirkland is promising, he is nothing like Berto. He brings ridiculous pressure in the ring, power and good ****ing chin. Pressure alone makes him different than Berto. He's still green and should focus on boxing skills as much as he does with his conditioning. He would be unbeatable then!

This guy is a serious threat to anyone at 154 although i don't think he is a polished fighter. He tends to get reckless and that could lead to him being on the other end of a KO. Fight by the KO, lose by the KO. It's almost like he doesn't understand that he doesn't have to force the KO. He is powerful enough to let it come to him.(controlling his rage and agression could take him far)

I don't know if I would use tallent to describe Kirkland.

That said he may be able to overcome his lack of tallent with his insane work ethic, hunger, beard and mean streak.

Do you think there is any chance we will see Mosley vs Paul Williams?

Honestly Mosley is one of my all time favs, and PW is one of my current favorites who I am looking forward to following the rest of his career, I don't know who I would want to win this fight...

So, I guess I would want to see a great all action fight that ends in a draw :)

I disagree. I know that different style cause different outcomes in fights but Kirkland beat Julio much easier then Dziniruk did. And Kirkland also showed a huge improvement in skill level. He isnt a classic boxer, but he is a skilled bawler, much in the mold of Hagler. Im not saying that Kirkland is anywere near as good as Hagler but that is who he reminds me of.

And his isnt really a big banger.

his relentlessness reminds me of Hagler as well, I wouldn't be surprised if Kirkland has watched tons of film of Hagler and has tried to emulate his style.
