It's partly true that Parker didn't display enough fire. However you miss the crucial point that when he was fired up and willing to take the fight to Joshua, the ref stepped in as a bodyguard and told him to stop. And the referee allowed Joshua to hold excessively without a warning which allowed AJ to smother parker with his frame on the inside through illegal tactics. Parker's corner did try to get on the referee's case, however Hearn saw to it that he would tell their corner that he didn't speak or understand a word of English. We can only surmise that Parker had two opponents to contend with on the night.
Drop. Kevin. Barry. Choice of opposition and his path back to title contention should be a secondary concern. Ortiz, while a great match up, is a wholly unnecessary risk. At 26; Joe has plenty of time to rebuild and if Sasha can become mandatory with two organisations due to wins over Rudenko and Hammer then you can guarantee Parker won't have Luis on his radar for the time being. Pulev would be a good shout but he seems entirely unwilling to take another loss after the Klitschko demolition, I don't believe he truly wanted to fight Joshua and that was with unified titles and a pocketful of coin on the line, no way does Kubrat risk getting in with Parker if the reward is far less. Miller, Whyte and Breazeale are all on the cusp of title shots and seem content to just wait their turn with minimal risk involved, which doesn't really leave Parker with anybody the fans can get excited about. I'd say take a trans-Tasman payday to retire Browne and then take whomever is willing to fight. If that means facing the same kind of lacklustre opposition that Povetkin faced then so be it. He doesn't have first pick at the table any more so he should expect a rather pragmatic stretch of matchmaking for the next 12 months. **** it, give him David Price.
When one guy is spoiling then yes, it tends to make it close. You aren’t changing my opinion, I know the fight I watched and I know boxing.
Are you a New Zealander? I watched the fight and was cheering for Parker. It was an atrocious performance and ‘fight’.
he does not have a champions heart, no shame, not everyone does, but you need one to take what belongs to someone who does have a champions heart.
The rds were close but AJ won nearly all of them. All he had to do was stick jab out now and then against a guy who had no idea about how to close the distance. A different ref won't make any difference because AJ handled him just as well on the inside. JP peaked around the Takam fight and has shown no improvement since. He actually regressed in the Fury and Conjanu fights. New trainer or not he will never get any better. He's ranked about 5 now and that's about right. He's a real nice guy Joe and he's done well considering he's a hw with a short reach fighting out of a boxing backwater NZ with poor promotion and training. He's made a pile of cash and should make plenty more and be sensible enough to hang on to it when he's done with boxing. He will keep trying but he will always fall short against the top guys in the division.
Wilder will not come near Parker, so he will have to get somebody to fight him, hope his promoter has enough money because nobody will want to fight him..................
I hope Duco invests heavily back in him again, as it'll take some coin to get the fights he needs. Currently he is a dangerous option, that doesn't offer any belts or much in the way of ranking. It'll take $$ to entice those ranked top 10 fighters to have a crack.
I had AJ winning extremely comfortably and i was routing for parker. I think ortiz is a great fight but i also personally think parker is a fat cruiserweight, Hes weighed 226 in the past and still not been as lean as he could be, Lay off the pies be disciplined get under 220 and cut some water weight and he could make cruiserweight no problem. Middle weights are cutting 15-20lbs of water that's even easier for a HW to cut. The size against joshua was a big factor. those Chinese heavyweights never fight anyone with a pulse or away from home so I doubt it'll be them
