After his defeat against Postol which i think it was fair just because he was the fighter with a plan and executed it perfectly, what is next for matthysse?Should he retire? Change his corner? move to E.E.U.U to train? According to Matthysse he said he will keep training in Argentina( i assume this decision is because he wants to stay close to his family, which i respect but sometimes you need to do this kind of sacrifices).
I know he considered retirement after the loss to Garcia but I really see no reason for it. I'm always for boxers retiring early, so it'd be just fine and likely the best scenario overall. But he can still probably beat most anybody at 140. He still should have nice purses to get and if he ever plans on becoming "world champion," he needs to continue (not that winning a title means much of anything as he was #1 at 140 entering the Garcia clash and again for the Postol clash). I love watching Matthysse fight and as a fan would hope to see him in there again.
He should take some time out so that he can reflect on what is important. Boxing isnt worth going blind for, especially when you have a family and are young etc. He also doesnt really have an incentive when you have **** stains calling him a bu and a coward because he went temporarily blind expecting him to fight in such a state.hopefully he has made a bit of change which will serve him well in SA
Change his trainer to Pablo Sarimento ( who used to train Segrio Martinez), or upgrade assistant trainer Juan Coggi to head coach. Take a few months break, come back and fight one of the weaker guys in the IBF top 15 (e.g. Lenny Zappavinga) to get ranked and take aim at countryman Cesar Rene Cuenca's IBF strap.
I'd still favor him against pretty much anyone but Crawford. He just needs to find guys he can go toe-to-toe, and get a better trainer too. He's like he's completely fighting off instinct with no back up plans or particularly for this fight no A plan either.
The easy guy to win a title off in that division would be Broner, but no way would Haymon take that fight and Broner has his sights set on the legendary Ashley Theophane.
The awkward moment when Broner takes his goggles off like he means business, you think he's about to call out Spence Jr.....but he's talking about 6 defeat journeyman outside of the top 50 Theophane
