stevenson won't fight Hopkins, due to the HBO/GBP nonsense. He probably won't travel to England to fight Froch, and Ward isn't moving up in weight.
Stevenson-Belew Kovalev-Alvarez Co-event in Qc city. Winners fight each others on HBO. That's a plan!
yes stevenson is willing to travel, most of his early career was fought abroad, he has fought in the states a few times.. either way gym and eddie hearn are on good terms, tyhey both know its all about the $...so they can make it work.. hopkins on the other hand has been in a few fights in mtl and loves it, he is a business man and sees the oppotunity here...as well as he has already said he and the ppl in chagre of making the shows happen are trying hard to make this happen...$ runs this sport...and hbo/sho will find a way to may a huge unification fight between bhop and stevenson..they know it will sell http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iFPyJgEiXdc http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6SYrP_NfUfk yvon michel of GYM has already stated, they have 3 fights signed with hbo, hbo plan is for the cloud, bellew, and then kovalev fight, but GYM has already stated that for the time being that kovalev is not in their plans, they have stated that after bellew they want hopkins, and they have numerous different offers from different networks, so if hbo does not want it then they will have to make a tough business descision that is in the best of their fighters future. they are looking for the big names and big paydays...it dont get much bigger than bhop, froch, and ward...all which would pay more than the kovalev fight....i think if stevenson can get past bhop and froch, then we might see a kovalev fight but kovalev would have to also face some big names to build hjis resume up, so they could have a mega fight that would not only be huge fan friendly, but also rake in huge profits... the real point here is hbo is thinking short term profit, and GYM is thinking long term mega fight...build both fighters careers up to the likes of froch/ward resume...then have a mega fight that would be ppv vegas style... has the alvarez/kovalev fight been confirmed? links?
On the last, no cofirmation I'm aware of, though Eleider did mention Kovalev as a possible opponent prior to the Miranda fight. That Kov is likely to be fighting a 'top ten LHW' in Montreal on 30th is pretty widely acknowledged, and given the options that's gonna be either Alvarez or Fonfara. The smart money and Kovs website suggest that Fonfara would be in the windy city, however, so I'm guessing Alvarez. The only issue with your earlier points (and Schaeffers comments) is that GBP and SHO have no depth at LHW - take Bhop outta the equation (which father time surely will, sooner rather than later) and they have nothing else to offer. HBO is the broadcaster that it makes most sense for higher weight promoters to create long term bonds with. Also Froch ain't a 175 fighter and probably never will be (he fights at 172/3 lbs and never really varies much in weight) so unless you're talking about the LHW lineal world champion coming back down to 168, it doesn't seem likely. Ward - Stevenson does make sense, when Ward's ready to move up, but I doubt it's much more lucrative than Kovalev, Ward just ain't a massive draw. Not only that but the smart money would have to go on Ward.
ya i heard the same about the alvarez/kovalev possiblility, but have not heard a confimation...but i know that even after the miranda fight that GYM was asked if he would still put him up to kovalev, and he said anywhere anytime...so sounds like they ar still down for it....just no confirmation... but yes, GYM has already stated that they want the hopkins fight, then after that if they win, they wan big money fights, like froch and ward, and they also said that adonis would be willing to drop back down to 168 to get these fights stating that adonis is a natural 168 lber, and that he never has to cut weight for 175 cuz even his natural walking around weight is 182, when training for a fight even a month before the fight he is 175 or less...he would not have a problem shaving the weight to 168, and for a froch or ward fight, ppv style they want and are willing to do that
You've obviously got your ear to the ground regarding GYM and the Stevenson camp, I hadn't heard they had specific plans, just that they were more interested in BHop than Kov, but HBO weren't keen. I still think Bhop may get shut out however, 'specially if Ward is on the radar. In fact, given HBOs better international relationships even Froch is more likely an HBO date. I have to say though that while it's possible Stevensons speed and athleticism might be too much for BHop (I wouldn't count on it), Ward has the tools to neutralise Stevenson.
