I thought Ray Austin exposed Sultan and I didn't like Sultans performance much against Briggs (although I certainly thought he won). The fight against Wlad just summed up my thought that he simply isn't good enough to get inside the bigger, taller fighters. So what now? His handlers rushed him into title contention as fast as they possibly could (I think Povetkin is making the same mistake) and now that he has lost his belt what next? He didn't earn a rematch and nobody would want to see it anyways. Maybe Sultans corner should have been a little more patient with him and groomed him a bit longer. I know that its difficult to make fights so maybe he didn't have a choice but he clearly has weaknesses that need to be improved if he is ever going to beat these giants. But will he even get a chance now? He isn't that marketable in the US. Will he be relegated to the 'gatekeeper' scrap-heap? You know, the guy you have to fight in order to be considered legit? The guy who keeps the dead-weight out of the division? I could see him dissapear off the face of the Earth to be honest.
Retirement, I dont who would want to pay to see him fight, at least Ruiz's had that Stoney in his corner to make a boring fight enertaining.
Wait a sec, perhaps Ibragimov vs Ruiz/McCline winner? The winner of Ruiz/McCline could use another obstacle before claiming he's "back"
Sultan vs. McCline? Yuck... that could be another snooze-fest along the lines of what we saw last night or the Iggy Briggs fight.
:rofl That match dont seem to exciting, if Mccline beats Ruiz, I could see him possibly hurting Iggy early on, even if the fight happens to go longer, even Mccline can fight at the pace at which Iggy fought Wlad last night.:yep
I wouldn't be surprised if he retires. You have to think it would be tough to get back into title contention. Whatever you guys think of last night's performance, Ibragimov was moved well, considering his late start as a pro, and has had a good, entertaining (with a few exceptions) career, winning an Olympic medal and a world heavyweight title. If he does continue, I'd like to see him in with someone more his own size, Chagaev would be a good matchup, and see him get back to his old, more aggressive style.
Why wasnt Tyson in his corner last night? I read somewhere that he was in his camp helping him train for his last couple fights.
My guess is he would have been a distraction, although judging how Mayweather did, Tyson couldn't have hurt. He's been at many of Sultan's fights. They were interviewed in the ring together after the Goofi fight.
You would think Iggy would want Tyson in the corner for motivation, if nothing else. I read Tyson was slated to be in Iggys corner for the scheduled Chagaev fight, but Tyson wasnt allowed because it would of violated his parole. I feel it would of made the fight more interesting, Tyson being in his corner.
