Fella won like 8 rounds, could've earned a TKO, beat Fury to a pulp and almost got robbed for his efforts. I guarantee if the 2nd fight is close, the robbery becomes official. What's next then?
Yet at the same venue where the rematch is, if there's no knockdown ruled, Usyk is robbed of a victory per scorecards so the 1st fight was already tainted.
Have you rewatched it recently? On the night I had it just for fury, next day rematch uysk by 2. Watched it 3 times this week and had 3 different scores at the end. Only thing I stand by is that every time I've watched it there could be no complaints if the ref called it off in the 9th. There's always going to be someone thinking the other side is hard done by.
If you watch a fight 4 times and have a different scorecard each time perhaps you need to refine those scoring skills.
That's not always the case to be fair. There are some rounds that are so close that can legitly go either way and sometimes if you don't score rounds as a draw you can have different result. Try scoring Ruiz vs Golota for example. A nightmare! Haney vs Loma is one of the most recent examples. This doesn't apply to Fury vs Usyk I of course. Usyk clearly won 6 rounds, Fury clearly won 3 and 3 were swing rounds.
Another Patterson vs Johansson situation. 2 heavy’s in a trilogy while the rest of the division sits there stagnating. Eventually most boxing fans will say “who gives a ****?” 20 odd years to get a unified undisputed champion and here we go again.
Fury by robbery decision is probably the most likely outcome. Somehow stinking Craig Metcalfe scored the first fight for Fury. I just re-watched the fight, it was a very clear Usyk win - when the announcer said "Craig Metcalfe", old Fish Eyes had the look of assured confidence, as if he knew he would score it for Fury. The referee too was helping Fury, it should have been stoppage but before that when Fury was hurt he blocked Usyk. No doubt, old Fish Eyes will offer the judges and referee an incentive to favor Fury.
There won’t be a robbery. Though, I hope the referee this time doesn’t rescue Fury if he’s hurt and ready to go.
Go back and watch the 11 and12 rounds and tell me how many judges voted for Fury and how they could? The fix was on last time and it is on this time.
Well, it depends. Comparing cards against multiple judges (inter-rater reliability) Comparing the rescoring of your own card (intra-rater reliability) Ideally, they should all be close to each other. If the results are not repeatable...then there was a problem with the scoring criteria or someone's inability to follow it. But I get your point. For fans like us, sure, we get drunk, we're tired, we might deliberately change our criteria for fun to see how it changes the outcome of a bout. And ultimately, scoring a boxing bout is not a social science. More of a dark art.
