I'm afraid it is. This fight has significance only because Phillips was the IBF champ (was stripped to make this fight) and they're fghting for a world title now, or interim cahmpionship whatever that means...

Anyone who thinks this is going to be a cakewalk for Williams has officially boarded onto the Nuthugger Hype-Train. Say "hi" to the Kelly Pavlik nuthuggers for me.

Verno is a good fighter, there is no denying that, but he's always fallen short agaisnt the top tier of his divison. I just don't think an older version is going to pull out a victory against Williams.

Easy win for Paul Williams. How about fighting someone your own size for once? Naw, nevermind.

Tell that to Margarito. Also, as far as I remember Williams had many fights at Middleweight and Jr. Middleweight, were they all smaller than him?, if so why doesn't he have half a dozen losses like Margarito yet?

Not expecting any response, of course.

Verno Phillips at this point is an extremely shitty B- fighter. Paul Williams (flaws and all) should handle him easily.

    :rofl :rofl :hey

In all seriousness though Verno Phillips might turn out to be tougher than anticipated.

For starters he's only ever been stopped once in 10 losses and that was early in his career. He also is slick enough to beat the likes of Cory Spinks, despite only being 5'7"

I expect the younger, significantly bigger Williams to win but it will be a close fight if he wins. I could also see Phillips winning by being quicker on his feet and befuddling Williams with angles and staying under the long arms. The X factor here being Phillips' age. 38 is asking alot and I know I said the same for Hopkins being 43 so I am a bit hesitant to say it'll be a factor here. Phillips DID beat Cory Spinks in his last fight so we have to keep that in mind.

That Message is that if you step inside the ring with you might touch me a couple of times but you will literally be punished for as long as your standing inside of that ring with me. This Fight was a statement fight for paul williams and not that he beat an amazing fight but for the fact that he completely wanted to inflict as much pain as he possibly could on his opponent by sticking to the body. The Variety of punches Paul Williams Can throw, the actual underestimated power that he is throwing them with, and his game planning was put on display today. Although Paul Williams looks very beatable & vulnerable at times due to the amount of punches and types of punches he recieves he is giving at least twice as much as he is recieving in the process. If you were a hater before although many may pit him against your favorite fighter atleast embrace paul williams as one of the most talented and exciting fighters in the boxing community as of today.

It was good fight, Williams once again shows his Chin, his heart and his skill

He took shots, and really was never effected... and Phillips can punch.
Williams is great, can't wait to see him again in the future
