PW won but I wouldn't call it a cakewalk. Although he won every round his face was busted, swollen, and cut up (on both sides) worse than Verno's was despite landing like 3x the punches. I was surprised the doctor stopped the fight although I think he would've finished him. He made Verno look his age and he looked done after the 3rd. I can admit when I was wrong. I thought Verno would be trickier than he was. It was a good win for Paul, one of the best of his career. Props to him. :thumbsup
P. Williams is weak.. he had HBO up his ass the entire fight. Watch the fight on mute & see how many left hook's & Right's he was being hit with & FLUSH! His body punches get blocked for the most part... He's not half as good as he is being made out to be by HBO. Max actually pulled out, Jones Jr., JC Chavez, Mike Tyson & Hearns as comparrisons to Williams....LMAO!!! what a crock of ****!
thats the thing though... i think the people who wish for paul to fail embrace the fact that he has leaky defense and hope that he finally takes that dive and paul fans are fearful because of his chin (which is sturdy)... regardless paul williams literally looked like he wanted nothing more but to inflict as much pain on verno as physically possible... i mean lets be honest paul threw nothing but haye makers to verno's body for 8 str8 rounds and didnt want to do anything else... has anyone ever seen anything like that? i mean im not trying to toot paul horn or something but i have never seen something like that.... I also liked paul williams focus. tonight you could see it in his face that he was focused and prepared to do what he had to do 2nite... great showing for paul and I hope he gets more believers out of this matchup one more thing.. i dont think verno's age was the problem 2nite... paul williams put in so much work on his body that he couldnt do anything but slow down
I like P dub but beating a 39 yr old fighter is not something special. If we give Calzaghe **** for this and give P dub props than we are just a bunch of hypocrites.
So close to thanksgiving, Paul Williams reminded us all how to carve up a cooked turkey. Hopefully he stays at 154 where the much more intriguing fights are. I think Him vs John Duddy would make A LOT of coin and garner a lot of attention.
yeah but verno looked fresh still roy was obviously washed up as **** and people give calz his props for the bhop fight... the problem is alot of people think he lost that fight
I dont blame Paul for taking this fight since no one else wanted to fight him. I just hope people dont overrate this win and then we have to hear **** from the Brits.
I agree that the fight would draw well in New York and probably make good money for both guys. I think Duddy would be destroyed by Williams.
at the same time though he looked very impressive... paul showed his grit, punching variety, heart, focus tonight... he also showed some weaknesses as well... he has a difficult time when fighters rush in when they start off from outside of his reach... im happy for paul though i think this fight was a step in the right direction for him verno was competitive early and pw just totally and completely broke him down as the fight went along roy never looked competitive against calz
How About Paul William Strength though? Was it just me or did this guy look like his punches would have a tremendous amount of sting on them... if paul can keep this strength consistent from weight to weight.. he will be putting a lot of people out early... in my opinion verno was 1 or 2 rounds from his first true stoppage .. i was extremely impressed
Paul needs to learn that the longer it takes for him to bring his right back after he throws it, the easier it is to counter. That's his major major flaw...he pops it out quickly but when he goes to pull it back and reset he's just real slow.
I think a New trainer would scratch a surface of pauls potential that not even he knew he had.. i think paul has a tremendous learning curve for some reason... i know he doesnt want to part with his trainer because im pretty sure they have been together since day 1
And this I think goes back to Roger Mayweather's original point: There aren't bad fighters nowadays just bad trainers.
