What's Roach gonna do if his fighter gets his ass kicked again?

Two of his boys (Khan and Pacquiao) got beaten in this year. Chavez Jr. may become another one on this coming weekend.

2012 may be the worst year of his.

None of the above. Top trainers have fighters who lose all the time. Why do people waste their time fussing about what Roach will do if his fighters lose. Do you think people obsessed over what Ray Arcel would do if Ezzard Charles lost his rematch to Marciano? Should Arcel have retired wen Zale got knocked out by Marcel Cerdan?

What did Emmanuel Steward do when Hearns lost to Leonard and McCory lost to Curry or when Lee lost to Vera and Cintron lost to Margarito?

What did Naz Richardson do when Mosely lost to Mayweather and everyone else and BHOP lost to Calzaghe?

He'll just keep doing what he's doing, although hopefully he'll ditch Chavez since he isn't worth the trouble. I do think Roach is entitled to a vacation though. Who knows, he might be a bit burnt out.

All trainers go through highs and lows if they're in the business long enough.

Joe Goosen had a great streak when he trained the Ruelas brothers to world titles, Corrales, Ben Tackie, Casamayor, and Shane Mosely. He's still doing good work but he doesn't really have an elite fighter. That and Molina's flop last Saturday don't make Goosen a bum and it doesn't wipe out his previous work.

Same thing for Dan Birmingham. He was trainer of the year in like 2005 or 2004 and he was training Winky Wright, Chad Dawson, and Jeff Lacy with some other solid guys. Winky got old, Chad did his vanishing act, and Lacy ran into Calzaghe and tore his rotator cuff. To an extent Birmingham was lucky like Roach in that he had talented guys in his gym but he still did an amazing job, especially molding Winky.

Same thing for Naz, same thing for Ulli Wegner, and the same thing for Enzo Calzaghe who was trainer of the year in 2007 with Joe, Gavin Rees, and Enzo Mac all as beltholders. By the end of 2008 Joe was retired, Rees had been beaten back into obscurity, and Macrinelli had suffered two violent knockout loses. Guess what, Calzaghe is still an outstanding trainer.

Very few trainers ever manage to hold on to more than one or two beltholders for any lenth of time. There's Steward, who is clearly one of the top 3 trainers ever behind Arcel and Futch, and currently there's Robert Garcia and Nacho Beristein. And Garcia could find himself in Roach's position in the next two months if Donaire, Rios, Mikey, Maidana, and Tyson Marquez all lose their upcoming fights.

But who really cares at the end of the day? The boxer makes the trainer more than the trainer makes the boxer. Everyone from Dundee to D'Mato has agreed on that one.

Realize his trainer of the year awards have been a fluke? Cmon, even a guy with down syndrome like him should be able to realize that.
