I'm a fan of both but am a BIG Ezzard Charles fan and I think there should've been a documentary on him. Nothing I love more than technically-skilled fighters and Charles was one of the best. SRR was an offensive beast and just beautiful to watch too.

    Ezzard Charles' prime= ???-???

    Ray Robinson's prime= ???-???

    Your favorite Charles fight= ?

    Your favorite Robinson fight= ?

JohnGarfield indicated in a post reply to an inquiry of mine that he considered Robby's first match with Olson to be perhaps Ray's final peak performance. Although footage of that one has never surfaced, we do have Robinson's very next match on youtube, as it was televised against Bobby Dykes.

I Suspect Ezzard's peak ended with the Baroudi tragedy. The last match Charles had prior to that was when he outsmarted the Ole' Mongoose to conclude their series with an eighth round knockout.

1952? Disagree. I think charles was the same fighter 1952-1954. I think his first drop off was after 1949. Charles had unbelievable footwork and leg speed prior to 1950. Charles seemed to retain his full handspeed and upperbody reflexes until 1952.

I didn't think he was prime in '50 especially when he fought Louis so his last year being prime may have been in '49. Great performance beating Joe but I don't think Ezzard was prime then.

Interesting, I just read about the Baroudi/Charles fight and it is unfortunate what happened. It's sad that death can occur after fighting but it does I just hope the families of boxers who passed because of fight injuries live their lives in peace.

Agreed. His very best work was 1946-1948 at 175lb. However, He was still clearly an ATG fighter at age 28 against Joe Louis in 1950.

Honestly I just watched the Louis/Charles fight yesterday lol, but I do agree he still was an ATG and still had skills to trouble people.

Charles' prime = His Light Heavyweight days after Army serive, cant remember the years though

Robinson's prime = Bell fight through to his first Olsen bout.

Fave Cahrles fight = Marshall II
Fave Robinson fight = Lamotta VI

Agree there, I think after moving to Heavyweight he was still great just not as great as he was at 175lbs.

My favourite Charles fight to watch is his losing effort against Harold Johnson

Robinson-LaMotta VI is maybe my favourite fight of all.

I liek the Marshall fight, its the best technically-correct inside fighting I have seen in a bout aswell as it being fought at a mad pace and really dramatic.
