First, this thread is not a thread about prediction and analysis of potential fights. We had two of those yesterday. We all know that in boxing the promoters rarely do the things that acutally make sense. So, I'd like to have some opinions on what does make sense now that Winky appears to be back in the mix. Here are some ideas I've thought about. 1: Pavlik blows off a Rubio fight and fights Abraham in January/February as orginally planned. The winner fights Winky next summer. 2: Pavlik takes the Rubio fight with Arthur/Winky on the undercard. 3: Pavlik/Rubio in February followed by Pavlik/Arthur in early summer. In the mean time Winky fights a top 10 guy at 160. 4: Pavlik blows off the Rubio fight and fights Winky in February (KP and Winky both have tenative dates with HBO.) Pavlik, Abraham, and Wright makes for some very interesting dynamics given the various style clashes. We'd all like to see someone emerge as THE MAN. How would you guys like to see this go down? Thoughts?
Ideally I'd like to see Pavlik v Rubio & Abraham v Marquez on the same bill, like when Hatton fought Lazcano and Malignaggi fought N'Dou at the City Of Manchester Stadium. Providing they both come through, they fight each other to unify the WBC/WBO/IBF/Ring belts. Very unlikely, but in an ideal situation, Winky could come through his fight with Michi Munoz, fight the winner of Sturm/Sylvester (could perhaps happen if it was Sylvester, though Sturm if he wins will continue to keep the belt hostage), and then he can face the winner of Pavlik/Abraham to unify all the belts.
Pavlik and Abraham have to find out who the best MW in the world is between the two of them. Abraham fights Marquez next, Pavlik should fight Rubio meanwhile to get back on track after his bitter loss, and (supposed they both win) this fight would be huge both in the US and in Germany, currently the two biggest boxing markets. A good and exciting fight for boxing. Winky was too inactive, let him take a couple of tune-ups and take on the winner of Pavlik-Abraham after that.
I think that would be best. Pavlik and Abraham face off, the winner fights Winky and the winner will be considered "the man" at MW.
Pavlik/Rubio in February followed by Pavlik/Arthur in early summer. In the mean time Winky fights a top 10 guy at 160. :good
When I think like a manager, I want Pavlik to fight Rubio next for obvious reasons. When I think like a hard core Pavlik fan, I want him to blow off the Rubio fight. Going into his usual seek and destroy mode and stopping Rubio in 5 or 6 rounds proves nothing. Against Winky or Arthur, KP could potentially make a HUGE statement. On the other hand giving Winky a chance to get the rust off, and get back in the public eye, is what I would do if I was managing Winky.
1. Pavlik wins vs Rubio and Abraham wins vs Raul Marquez 2. Pavlik vs Wright and Sturm/Sylvester winner vs Abraham on the undercard 3. Winner of Pavlik vs Wright vs the winner of Sturm/Sylvester/Abraham
Another factor to consider is that if we are going to see an undeniably dominant champ at 160, it has to happen pretty damn quick. Mother Nature is going to move KP and AA out of the division by the end of 2009. Arthur is already having trouble making 160, and Pavlik lives on cabbage soup the last few days before weigh in. Father Time is gonna start kickin' winky's ass pretty soon whether AA and KP do it or not. So, if this is going to get settled, it has to be next year.
Imo the best scenario would be if Abraham beats Marquez, then fights the winner of Sturm-Sylvester in Berlin in January with Pavlik-Rubio on the undercard/co-headliner - to make Pavlik known over here, there is as much money to make here as in the US. Then in March/April Abraham-Pavlik at the Madison Square Garden for all 4 titles. Winner faces Winky in Sptember.
Yep. Let Winky shake off the ring rust and gt back to 160 comfortably. When he's beaten 1-2 top 10 fighter's, then get him in with the winner of Pavlik/Abraham. In fact, i'd try to get Winky in with the winner of Sturm/Sylvester beforehand.
