Threads like these remind me how many classic fights I still need to watch. :twisted:

Best is subjective, but my mind keeps coming back to Gatti - Ward I, Round 9. There was a life lesson somewhere in Gatti getting up from that body shot. I guess the principle one being keep your elbows in against somebody with that kind of left hook.

I'll toss out Augustus - Ward, Round 9 and Toney - Jirov, Round 12 also.

And Hopkins - Trinidad, Round 10.

fantastic choice but in the greater scheme of things the fight or trilogy did not mean much to the wider audience

 

I'm writing all these down and plan to watch them all back-to-back on youtube (for whichever ones are on there). When I'm off work fully dicking off. As opposed to partially dicking off as at present.

I am not a fan of the ward gatti trilogy simply because they were not a class fighters in any sense. I would praise their spirit but surely we have to judge this particular question on top match ups. Please dont misunderstand me as I aggree with you these two crazy *******s gave their all. But if all we can come up with in our greatest rounds is two equaly matched brawlers going at it but not in any way world class it has become sad and not what it should be about. Hagler Hearns Foreman Lyle more like it.

 

Gosh, there are so many...I'll just stick to heavyweight for now.

Lewis/Klitschko round 2
