I don't take much notice of the HW's these days as they are so mediocre. Due to my age I missed Tyson's peak years though I have seen a lot of footage. The top guy in my time watching boxing has got to be LL. Even though some criticised his style I used to love watching the "pugilist specialist" pump that jab out.

I've seen many times footage of all the famous Ali fights - Foreman, Frazier etc. But the other day I was passing the time watching YouTube videos and I called up Ali V Cleveland Williams. **** me, Ali was sharp that night, that's got to be the best HW performance I have ever seen.

Do you agree? Or do you rate some other performance by a HW higher?

Some that spring to mind -

    Mike Tyson versus Micheal Spinks
Sonny Liston versus Floyd Patterson I & II
Joe Louis versus Max Schmeling II
Lennox Lewis versus Hasim Rachman II

and I agree with you about Ali versus Williams, but it's worth remembering that that version of Williams was done. I'd put it slightly below the others i've mentioned.

In terms of will and determination...

Ali vs. Frazier III comes to mind - unbelievable performance by both fighters
    also Alis performance against Foreman

In terms of will and determination you are entirerly correct, in the modern era, not just in this division, I think...

If we are going with performance, I would have to go with Ali over Cleveland Williams. Ali looked like he was floating on air that night.

    Tyson-Douglas

Douglas was perfect, jab, uppercuts, movement, clinching at the right moments, etc.

    Ali-Frazier I (Frazier's indominatble will to win, and that kd...what a punch)

Ali-Frazier III (the stench of death was in the air that night; two guys putting everything on the line with no thought for the consequences. Fair play to Eddie Futch for pulling Frazier out)

Louis-Schmeling II (a pure execution by Louis of a man who had previously whipped his ass; plus the global impact was massive).

Ali-Foreman (rope-a-dope; need I say more. Foreman had appeared invincible pre-fight but Ali totally out-thought him).

Depends what you're after. Some folks would say an early KO is more impressive than a 12-round shut-out.

Personally I think Lewis-Tua was a masterclass, but plenty of people just think it was boring. I can see both sides of that argument I guess...

As for all-time great boxing displays, I agree with Ali vs Williams

I'll keep it more Modern and say
Riddick Bowe vs. Evander Holyfield I
    November 1992 Undisputed Heavyweight Championship

Bowe gave an ATG performance that night..
That Bowe on that night would have givien any HW fighter thru
    history their hardest fight.
    with a career record of 42 wins 1 loss 33 K.O. 1 NC
Riddick will always go down as a Fighter who never reached his full potential.

I'm with you on that one. All the pre-fight talk was about Tua's left hook, Lennox jabbed is head off all night long.

I think these are the best:

    Louis-Schmeling II
    Ali-Williams
    Ali-Terrell
    Lewis-Rahman II

    Perfect performances by the winners.
