What's the best late-notice performance that you've seen?

    When a fighter isn't the original opponent, but steps in at late notice and performs way above expectations?

    Just rewatching Little Nog versus Jason Brilz. Brilz was a replacement for Forrest Griffin, on a little less than a month's notice. Which isn't super late, but it's not close to a full camp either. And Brilz stepped up to the plate and fought his ass off, only to get robbed. But that's a different story. :lol:

    Still, what are some of the most impressive stand-in performances to watch? :think

    Story Alvez comes to mind, as does Story Brenneman.

    Wow, for once I had the exact same exemple has everyone else, Story/Brenneman.

    But IMO it's Story own fault if he lost, his last fight before that wasn't even a month before.

    Varner vs Barboza was a good one. Also dont forget Jones took the Shogun fight on short notice.

    Chris Leben/Akiyama, of course. Shortest time between wins in UFC history.

    You also got to tip your hat to Lavar Johnson (Struve) and Dustin Pague (Stone).

    Some other memorable late notice step-ups:

    - Ebersole/Lytle
    - Weidman's whole career
    - Varner upsetting Barboza
    - Should we count Anderson Silva/Bonnar?
    - Josh Koscheck also steps up very often

    Considering the VERY late notice, reputation of opponent at the time, size difference and quickness of victory Petruzelli Vs Kimbo deserves a shout.

    Varner Vs Barboza was a heart warming one for me.
