I'm not quite a weak puncher (Malignaggi), but how do you go from a good puncher (Hopkins) to a great puncher (Trinidad)?

    Any tips?

Well not everyone can be a huge puncher, it's down to natural ability and genetics.

Only thing you could say is improve technique until it is perfect. Swing your hips and shoulders into your hooks and make sure all the powers coming from your legs.

Some people think weights can help with punching power, I'm not adverse to this as long as its the muscle groups that actually matter in a punch, getting huge biceps means little.

Another thing to add would be timing and speed, power certainly isn't everything in a punch, if you land it accuratley with speed and they don't see it, it can be game over. This would come along with technique and improving that so you can exploit any gap in your opponents defence with a crisp well timed punch, the punches will become muscle memory.

I don't think everyone can be a big puncher however, but there's no reason why people can't become effective punchers.

After two fights in two days my biceps where sore like ****. And I was punching real hard in that second fight. So I guess biceps have something to do with punchingpower.

It's such a small muscle group and has not inhernet flow with the punch. It would be much better for you to build up legs (the power base) lats, your back and tri's.

I can't see how big biceps would give someone more power, if anything, they restrict.

i think biceps slow you down if anything tbh,

they will obviously help in keeping your guard high as your arms are bent(biceps contract) but when it come's to extending your arm fully a bigger bicep slows the punch down as biceps relax when the arm is streched out fully.

    just my observation though

technique is the best thing for you, but its boring, hitting a bag constantly with the same punches a thousand times a day till suddenly your smashing the bag to peices!

work on your balance and footwork before you start doing any weights.
    throw your hands with speed.
learn how to throw hollow hands and snap your hands at the last second, just punch your hand with no power, and at the last second close your and and twist it a bit, you should feel the difference.

Technique more than anything. Learn to deliver that power and put your weight behind it.

Mate in my shape I wouldn't last a round even with your tippy tappy digs. TKO for DINAMITA via exhaustion. Need an oxygen tank in the corner just to get me out for the first round!!

The only serious advice I can give is Weights are a no-no. Back in the day I relaxed my boxing training and hit the iron hard. When I went back to serious training I couldn't punch for ****. 20lbs heavier, looked good but my speed and strength had gone to ****.

Like the other guys said bud work on technique and speed, it'll help.:good

I think weights can improve punching power. The thing is weighttraining is should be something extra on top of what you are already doing. Don't replace it for running and gym sessions.

You seriously think lifting weights would not help build power mate? I felt sure they would be a key part of it?
