The key is good lateral movement, counter-punching and the ability to stay calm. Also when they do get inside you must stop them working. Smother and spoil, and then back to your movement. The ability to stay calm in any situation cannot be overlooked, your brain always operates properly when your calm.
Exactly. Which leads to you becoming flustered, which then leads to you burning extra energy, which is going to play right into a pressure fighters hands. Calmness is key to any gameplan working effectively.
To put it simply you have to counter him hard and accurately to make him think twice about coming in... even if you get on your bike and make him miss you still need to counter.
The best defense is always a good offense so counter-punching is the best along with good movement to not get stuck on the ropes.
The answer to this question depends on the pressure. Are you going to get the same kind of pressure from Alexis Arguello that you are going to get from Chavez or Foreman? Nope. Different problems, different solutions.
I like the JMM way. He doesnt run he just sits there with his guard up and waits for you to fire your punches so he can fire his off. I love seeing guys come after him the whole fight until he hurts them then they are the ones backing up and usually getting KOd soon after. When you see a pressure fighter back up you know he is hurt. Kind of how Rios backed up in the 3rd and 4th round against Acosta. Never seen Rios back up.
