Anyone know if tyson/douglas OPENED at 42-1 or was it driven to that by the usual huge betting on Tyson?
RJJ/Tarver 2 There were a ton of signs pointing to Tyson eventually getting beat (Blood Green, Quick Tillis, Witherspoon, getting caught up in the life, a midget, etc...)....but there was no indication of RJJ getting absolutely starched by Tarver.
I was under the impression a lot of bookies and casinos didn't even have a line because of the chances for a Buster upset...
Tyson-Douglas hands down, listen to Ferdie Pacheco's SHOCKED commentary in the 10th...."TYSON IS DOWN, OHMYGOD!!!!"
recently Rob Calloway was a 66 to 1 favorite over Max Alexander that fight ended up in a draw and in Calloway's own backyard too, suspicion that Max got robbed i suppose
No need to go into the circumstances surrounding the Tyson/Douglas fight There's plenty of literature out there about it and I'm sure that most people who follow boxing are familiar with them. The point is that Douglas pulled off an upset of epic proportions. Nobody gave him a chance to win the fight except he and his team. To even reach a point where we can have another upset comparable there'd have to be a fighter who was undefeated and just tearing through his division and getting the notoriety along with it. Boxing isn't covered in the media like it once was so if a major upset does occur it'll most likely be confined to the boxing community (media and fans) and would get a 5 minute spot on ESPN. That's really it.
The biggest upset in boxing history was Tyson - Douglas. Lewis - Rachman, Barkley - Hearns I, Ali - Spinks I, Holmes - Spinks I, Sanders - Wl. Klitschko, Raheem - Morales were big upsets, too.
