What's the Classic opinion: could B-Hop really move up and defeat Haye?

Haye has proper power. Has this fight been talked about then or is it just us? Be dramatic as **** if Hopkins pulled this off

Knowing a bit about David Haye, his mentality and his career, I just don't see there being any chance of him not believing in his ability to bomb out a 45 year old who would be weighing around 30lbs less than him. It doesn't matter a jot if Hopkins has shown a great chin at 160 and 175, Haye weighs 215, and he will fancy the job of blasting out Hopkins and causing a sensation, of that I have no doubt. I'm not saying it is the best plan, but it's the one David Haye will pursue.

I agree totally. And i also think it's the best plan for him. What else is he going to do, beat Bernard Hopkins feint for feint and step for step in a boxing chess match? I know this is Hopkins past his best and nowhere near his best weight but come on.

What I know about Haye is he talks a load of monumental crap that translates to something entirely different in the ring.
Haye is ironically signed to Golden Boy in the US, so were probably going to find out soon enough, if and theres a big if, Haye cant get past Ruiz.

Exactly. But try and explain this to Lefthook, who seems to think Haye will try and go all Willie Pep on the smaller, older, physically weaker man.

No I didnt say that, I said systematically break him down with speed and sustained pressure. Going in full steam ahead brawling against a savvy guy like Hopkins isnt going to happen.

Even if you take age out of the equation, it would be a difficult task for Hopkins.

James Toney's performance at heavy makes you wonder, but Toney appeared to have a heavier punch at middle weight.

I would like to see Haye face the Toney Holyfield fought.

Reminds me of the talk about how Hatton, Cotto and Hoya were going to tear through Pacquiao because of the massive size difference of a fighter moving up.

    Behave Russell.

    HAYE KO1 Pacquiao.

I feel confident that i can get away with saying that, none of Pacquiao's hoard of obsessive fans come onto the Classic Forum. Out of their depth.

Well i am very confident that Hopkins would give an excellent account of himself and it would be a great fight, but i think that as every other classic poster would tell you, age will eventually be Hopkins undoing. I think it would be a reasonably close points decision or a mid to late rounds KO for Hopkins. If Hopkins were 5 years younger, i am pretty sure that i would change predictions, although either way, his chin does still need to pass the heavyweight test and there are no guarantees of that. It has to be more interesting than a Haye vs Ruiz fight, and i think that if Hopkins were to win, there would be a heap of potential fights.

To be honest, more than this fight, i would like to see Hopkins vs Toney I think that would be an awesome fight and very interesting from a classic point of view.

Hopkins said in his last radio interview that he's pretty seriously eyeing Haye, and he all but called him out following the Ornelas victory (proclaiming in no uncertain terms that he would be HW champ in 2010, and having already made clear that he'd never be stupid enough to challenge a Klitschko).
