Joel hasn't fought since the Corrales fight on October of last year. I haven't heard of any scheduled bouts. What's the deal? is he injured or just being ducked by everyone?

He is now supposed to get a shot at Diaz for the WBC belt. Casamoyer is actually the WBC interim champ. After he won the belt by beating Corrales, he was stripped for considering a bout with Popo Frietas and the belt was awarded to Diaz. Joel and his handlers threatened legal action, and from what I read, the sanctioning body reacted by making Joel the interim champ and promising him a shot at the Diaz/Morales winner. The whole situation is really messed up and Casa got screwed in the process.

No problem. Casa is one of my favorite fighters and this situation has been driving me crazy.

I can only imagine how frustrated he must be. He's the Ring Magazine champ, yet has not fought since last fall.

Casamayor is in a bad position. his still dangerous but his also old and had sliped considerable. He dangerous enough to beat some of the young belt holders but worn down enough that who ever beats him wont get the credit a fight with a Casa would normaly get a few years ago.

People simply don't want to fight him, and the alphabets don't like him.

Cas ia a fool, he thinks he should be getting 7 number pay days now, notice there has been no fights for him.

A 7 figure payday isn't THAT unreasonable for a guy who is the ring champion at 135, and clearly at least the second most "rightful" champ at the weight, personally I feel he is #1 but Juan Diaz can at least make a case, but both are clearly 1-2. Plus Casamayor generally puts on a fairly good fight, I dont think 1mil is that unreasonable for a guy of his caliber.

That's not how it works though. People need to pay to see you for you to get big paydays, and he doesn't have a big following, and he's not a particularly exciting fighter to watch. Also, the way Corrales was destroyed in his next fight, and the how weight drained he was at 135 makes Casamayor's accomplishments all that much less impressive.

IMO, Casa's one of the more overrated fighters out there right now. What exactly has he done in the past 5 years? Lost to JMM, lost to Popo, won 2 out of 3 against Corrales (although Corrales was a shell of his former self in the third), drew with Kid Diamond, and beat a bunch of gatekeepers. The problem is that there's no good reason for anyone to fight him. He's not so good that people want to scalp him for their legacy, he doesn't draw well and he doesn't have an alphabet belt (although the reason he lost it was BS). Sure, he could rematch Nate Campbell or whoever else, but it's much more lucrative for him to just wait on Diaz, and to eventually have a unification with the Diaz/Diaz winner. I'll bet he's pissed that David Diaz won though. Casa/Morales would have been a big payday, now he's probably stuck with a Boxing After Dark type slot.
