Personally, in recent memory the best card ever was Pride Shockwave 2004. Here are the fights. 1 Ikuhisa Minowa Stefan Leko Submission (Heel Hook) 1 0:27 2 Mu Bae Choi Paulo Cesar Silva Submission (Arm Triangle Choke) 1 5:47 3 Ryan Gracie Yoji Anjo Submission (Armbar) 1 8:33 4 Ryo Chonan Anderson Silva Submission (Flying Scissor Heel Hook) 3 3:08 5 Makoto Takimoto Henry Miller Decision 3 5:00 6 Rulon Gardner Hidehiko Yoshida Decision (Unanimous) 3 5:00 7 Mirko Filipovic Kevin Randleman Submission (Guillotine Choke) 1 0:41 8 Dan Henderson Yuki Kondo Decision (Split) 3 5:00 9 Takanori Gomi Jens Pulver KO (Punch) 1 6:21 10 Mark Hunt Wanderlei Silva Decision (Split) 3 5:00 11 Fedor Emelianenko Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira Decision (Unanimous) 3 5:00 Can Affliction top that? :yep
one of my favorite card ever... I believe that DREAM's NYE card will be memorable. (or maybe it's a bit too soon...but once this org is well established as a dangerous competitor like pride used to be...then i think we'll be seeing more quality cards like this one).. No affliction can't top that one...but affliction is still doing a great job so far...whether it's coming from affliction or dream or K1....mma just needs more competition. we imperatively need to avoid the monopoly of a single org like the ufc is trying to achieve...
That's the card that immediately sprung to my mind. I remember watching the PPV live. Great card that one. The UFC card "STACKED" was fairly - dare I say - stacked as well.
That is the card that is universally considered the greatest to date. I don't think Affliction needs to compete with that card, what they have to compete with is the UFC and Dream cards from here on out. Maybe have a few more cards and then see about "best card ever" but for now, survival is what they should be focusing on.
That was a very good indeed, The UFC may not have had the best card of all time but they put a very good card on every month not including free UFN. This isn't a sprint it's a marathon and the UFC is in it for the long haul....We'll see how Affliction does in it's follow up cards.
That was defo a stacked card. Some of the Pride GP cards were quite stacked as well. One I can think of off the top of my head is Total Elimination 2005.
Some events I believe can compete with Shockwave 04. Shockwave 05: Crazy Horse vs Ken Kaneko James Thompson vs Giant Silva Nakamura vs Yuki Kondo Aleksander Emelienenko vs Pawel Nastula Fedor vs Zulu Dan Henderson vs Bustamante II Takanori Gomi vs Hayato Sakurai Sakuraba vs Minowa Mark Hunt vs Cro Cop Yoshida vs Nayoa Ogawa Wanderlei Silva vs Ricardo Arona II Pride 2nd Coming: Joachim Hansen vs Jason Ireland Frank Trigg vs Misaki James Lee vs Travis Wiuff Sokoudjo vs Rogerio Nogueria Hayato Sakurai vs Mac Danzig Sergei Khraitnov vs Michael Russow Shogun Rua vs Alistair Overeem II Nick Diaz vs Takanori Gomi Dan Henderson vs Wanderlei Silva II Final Conflict 2006: Cyborg Santos vs Nishijima Aleksander Emelianenko vs Sergei Khraitnov Ricardo Arona vs Alistair Overeem Shogun Rua vs Cyrille Diabate Nakamura vs Yoshiro Nakao Wanderlei Silva vs Cro Cop Josh Barnett vs Antonio Rodrigo Nogueria Josh Barnett vs Cro Cop III Total Elimination 2005: Nakamura vs Kevin Randleman Ricardo Arona vs Dean Lister Igor Vovchanchyn vs Yuki Kondo Alistair Overeem vs Vitor Belfort Rogerio Nogueria vs Dan Henderson Sakuraba vs Dong Sik Yoon Shogun Rua vs Rampage Jackson Wanderlei Silva vs Yoshida II Final Conflict 2003: Gary Goodridge vs Dan Bobish Chuck Liddell vs Rampage Jackson I Wanderlei Silva vs Yoshida I Dan Henderson vs Bustamante I Heath Herring vs Yamamoto Sakuraba vs Kevin Randleman Mirko Cro Cop vs Antonio Rodrigo Nogueria Rampage Jackson vs Wanderlei Silva I UFC 46: Matt Serra vs Jeff Curran Josh Thomson vs Hermes Franca Georges St.Pierre vs Karo Parysian Lee Murray vs Jorge Rivera Frank Mir vs Wes Sims II BJ Penn vs Matt Hughes I Churoto Verissimo vs Carlos Newton Vitor Belfort vs Randy Couture II UFC 73: Chris Lytle vs Jason Gilliam Frank Edgar vs Mike Bocek Stephan Bonnar vs Mike Nickels Kenny Florian vs Alvin Robinson Antonio Rodrigo Nogueria vs Heath Herring III Sean Sherk vs Hermes Franca Tito Ortiz vs Rashad Evans Anderson Silva vs Nate Marquardt UFC 84: Rich Clementi vs Terry Item Goran Reljic vs Wilson Gouveia Palharres vs Ivan Salaverry Thiago Silva vs Antonio Mendes Sokoudjo vs Nakamura Wanderlei Silva vs Keith Jardine Tito Ortiz vs Lyoto Machida BJ Penn vs Sean Sherk Theres some you can atleast argue are as deep.
Me and Scurla would agree on Bushido 9 being one of the best mma events. I don't think this thread is about the best events but the most stacked cards. Don't get me wrong on paper Bushido 9 looked good but maybe it lacked a bit of star power/big draws when you compare it to some of the other events.
