Micky Vann round 2 of Earl vs Katsidis. Earls corner throws in the towel after Earl gets knocked down twice in round 1 and then in round 2. Micky throws the towel out and let the fight continue!!! Seconds later Earl drops Katsidis with a monster right hand!! Iv never been a fan of Mickey because of the Ricky Hatton debacle but that was great refereeing. Earl was involved in a war from the outset and he still lost via TKO but that in my book was a great piece of refereeing and certainly a GREAT fight. :good

I have always liked Mickey Vann, but agree with you that he did referee Hatton fights too often during the WBU days.

Though even you must admit that his presence had little effect on the outcome of most of the fights, as many of them were simply outmatched and outclassed on the evening.

The only time you could say that he did Hatton a favour was in round 2 against Eamon Magee when Ricky looked ready to go.

The biggest favour Hatton received during those days was being allowed to continue against Thaxton - if that had been now, he would have been waved off (that rule MUST change BTW - a TKO loss for an early cut).

Good pick with Earl and Katsidis.

Who was the referee who ref'd Benn and McClellan? Was he British?

Magee almost had Hatton out of there. Up to this day i still dont understand what Magee`s infringement was and why Vann decided to interfere when Magee clearly had a major advantage.

Hatton admitted in his book that the shot from Magee went right down to his socks, though anyone who knew anything about boxing would have been able to see that for themselves.

It is strange that people are making such a big deal about Lazcano shaking Hatton when guys like Magee (and a couple of levels below Magee also) have rocked him - though it must be said that Hatton is an expert at getting out of trouble (as opposed to staying out of trouble).

Not sure what to think about the Benn/McClellan refereeing - could be taken either way, but G-Man shouldn't have been in there full stop.

Didnt Mickey Vann referee Benn - Eubank 1?

I think he did that was a perfectly timed stoppage imo, in a really good ebb and flow fight.

Steve Smoger also did a great job on British shores (although he`s a yank). Most refs would have waved off Carl Thompson vs Sellers at the end of round 1 considering Sellers could barely make it to his feet and was still on unsteady legs when he was saved by the bell. Another great British classic. Tons of knockdowns in an all out war!

Only idiots bleated about the Lazcano bout and saying Hatton was shot. The facts remain when Hatton is hit cleanly and often the kid gets hurt end of story. Hatton is a very smart fighter in the sense that he swarms and smothers his opponents and knows when to clinch when hurt. But his never faced any truely elite box punchers. Kostya was quite faded and PBF gave him a hiding. But almost every time his been in the ring vs a boxer his had his work cut out and hasnt looked good in getting the W.

No an American reffed Benn vs Eubank 1

You may be getting confused with Bruno vs Lewis - Mickey was the man in the middle for that.

The Calzaghe Manfredo stoppage would have been justified had any of those slaps landed.

But top and bottom of the matter is that he shouldn't have been in the same arena, never mind the same ring as Calzaghe.

He lost both of the first two rounds easily and was firing back absolutely nothing - it reminded me of Lewis vs McCall
