Cokehead said they are moving away, but i was reading somewhere that Tom is still talking with Eric Gomez. Is it going to happen?

Alvarez is coming from a knee surgery. I believe he will fight an easy opponent next.

It looks like Loefler's 50/50 bluff did not work and is probably now groveling for a counter offer.

    Alvarez and GGG are negotiating,
and I think it’ll happen in September.
(I’m still holding out hope that
    somehow Charlo-GGG happens
    though)

It was never going to work, it was always just a negotiating tactic (and a poor one, because it's unrealistic). Realistically I think both sides would take 60-40 but they're pulling out all the stops to push it a % or two in their favour.

Exactly how I see it but you can't blame Loefler for trying. The big problem now is how to convince Gennady to lower his sights if he already convinced him that 50/50 was realistic.

I think Gennady is smart enough to know that 50-50 is not realistic, after all usually it's the fighters who are less worried about a few percent. But in any case when he sees that it's like 5+ x the money he'd get for Charlo or Derevyanchenko he'd realize that 40% is worth taking. Actually 35% is also worth taking, and from Canelo's perspective 50% is better than no fight.

That's why I'm fairly confident it gets done, too much financial risk in delaying the fight to 2019 as decent interim bouts are also dangerous, and the belts may end up flying apart. Even if Canelo takes a gimme in Spike, both Charlo and Derevyanchenko could beat Golovkin. Golovkin won't KO Derevyanchenko so that fight wouldn't be an effective buildup.

The only other possibility that still makes decent money is

    Canelo vs Spike
    Golovkin vs Murata in Japan

And the rematch in December or 2019.

Both fairly safe and profitable bouts, but both Canelo & Golovkin take considerable criticism and Golovkin gets stripped by the IBF. Possibly the WBC too but I'm sure they'd find a way to put the title back on the line for Canelo-Golovkin II so that doesn't matter.

Golovkin will go back to fighting hopeless bums and get roars of excitement and comparisons to prime Mike Tyson by his idiotic fan base.
