Does he get an auotmatic shot at Valuev/Holyfield when he gets back?? I seem to remember he was given "champion in recess" status by the WBO.
Well he had frickin hepatitis C before that of course...Skelton fight was inconclusive, he might not even have it anymore.
By the WBA. And as far as I know yeah, he's actually credited as being co-champion with Valuev. A lot of people thought Valuev picked up the vacant belt vs Ruiz but really, it was more like the interim version. Valuev of course lost his only fight so far to Chagaev, so he'd like to get that one back.
To be honest, I hope he doesn't fight the Holyfield-Valuev winner. Been there, done that. I hope he tries for Vitali or Wlad. Personally, I think Chagaev may have the best chance at beating either of these guys other than maybe Haye or Valuev. Chagaev is a VERY talented fighter...southpaw with lots of head movement, a pretty big punch, stamina for all 12 rounds, excellent ring generalship as shown against Valuev, and he is an extremely schooled Amateur. He has some of the best southpaw skills i've seen at HW and I think he could very well upset either Klitschko although it may not be likely.
I do actually think Chagaev is one of the best fighters in the division...it's just this parade of injuries that has really killed any chance of momentum. And we don't even know if he'll be quite the same boxer when he comes back yet.
