I was wondering the same thing.
I think its in DeGales interest to stay with Frank and move forward with his career, but thats just my opinion

The fight might be in Denmark on April 21 with Sauerland promiting (Despite Round Zero of Italy winning the purse bid) and with DeGale maybe signing with Sauerland.

In addition it is speculated that it could be the support for a Kessler - Magee bout (But this is denied. Kessler - Stieglitz is still claimed to be going ahead)

Id be surprised if DeGale signed with Sauerland.
Saulerland doesnt seem to match his SMWs he never had Ottke and Beyer meet

Yeah, I would be suprised as well.

Correct, that he never did. They were more interested in making as many shows as possible (Beyer - WBC. Ottke - IBF (Later unified with WBA) and Haussler - EBU)

But who knows. Recent times have showed them more willing to match up their own fighters. Cunningham - Hernandez. Povetkin - Huck. I dont see it happening though, as well as I dont hope it.

The SMW division has been my favourite for years and the fighters have been matched alot in Britain and S Ireland ie
    Eubank/Benn
    Eubank/Watson
    Benn/Piper
    Benn/Wharton
    Eubank/Wharton
    Eubank/Collins
    Benn/Collins
    Reid/Wharton
    Calzaghe/Eubank
    Calzaghe/Reid
    Woodhall/Catley
    Calzaghe/Woodhall
    Calzaghe/Starie
    Froch/Reid
    Froch/Magee

To name a few, even to a lesser degree like Francis/Starie and Groves/DeGale

I really cant understand why so many other countries dont seem to match there fighters in the SMW division as much.
You had Kessler, Larsen and Markussen who never fought
Back then in Germany they had Ottke, Beyer and Veit who all had world title success but never fought

My guess if that they're going to be working things out in the back rooms or in court at some point. Often, even when promoters and fighters are going to court you don't hear much about it until its done. Eitherway I'd say that relationship is done like dinner. The danger for degale is that he may have to pull a kessler or bradley and wait out a contract or something. Hope it doesn't come to that.

I know, and trust me, many people would have loved that have happned here as well (I dont know with Germany) I dont know the reasons for why It did not happen.

In 1980 and 1981 Mogens Palle matched up Jørgen Hansen and Hens Henrik Palm for the Welterweight Euro Crown, and in 1988 he matched up Rachid Lawal and Lars Lund Jensen for the Super Featherweight Euro Crown.

Why it did not happen with Kessler, Markussen and Larsen I dont know. Maybe they didnt want too, or maybe Palle was conviced that/hoping they could all get world titles defend them, and then maybe set them up. Or just try and do the Sauerland SMW model (Just have them made defences on each of their own cards) Then maybe match them if one or two lost, and the way to other titles seemed difficult.

I always wondered why Veit (Universum boxer) didnt fight one of the Sauerland SMWs. Universum and Sauerland have on other occasions matched their fighters. Also in All-German fights such as Sturm-Sylvester.

Apparently, Veit was trying to force a fight with Haussler for the EBU in 2003. At that time, Larsen was highest avaliable with IBF for Otkke, but was also mandatory for Haussler. Sauerland planned the Haussler show to be held only one month after Otkke - Larsen, believing that if Larsen lost to Otkke, he would leave Haussler alone(Veit was trying to become mandatory, thinking the same as the Sauerlands) But as you may know, Larsen, furious with the verdict in the Otkke fight, went back to Germany 28 days later anyway and schooled Haussler. Opponent Sauerland wanted? Armand Kranjc, the former WBO middleweight champion, who had lost to Harry Simon (And his title in the process) and Tatevosyan the year before. Then reeling of three victories at 168 against non-descript opposition.

Funny side note: Had Sauerland scheduled the Haussler show just a day earlier, Larsen would not have been allowed to fight Haussler, as you can only fight up til 28 days before a championship bout, according to the EBU

Always liked Larsen and felt he could have gone further. He just didnt get the opportunities. If after beating Haussler they had of got him a few selected top 10 opponents, you never know. He just seemed to dissappear
