My vote goes here. The Butler cheap shot was awful, the Collins-Resto stuff was premeditated.

Just to name another one. Several years back I believe the contestants were Teddy Reid and a fighter named Valdez. It was a tough fight and Reid started to get to him and in the 10th round Reid laid him out. Nothing gracious about Reid, however. He stands over his prone opponent - almost stepping on him - while he bullshyts with his loser buddies in the crowd, laughing and having a good old time, showing absolute disdain and no concern for the man at his feet. To make matters worse, Valdez died from injuries from this contest. Can't remember if he ever regained consciousness. A real POS was Reid.

Sounds awful. Makes me think of MMA - not to imply they all react this way, but it seemed like I didn't see it as often in boxing.

For me, all the fights where former great fighters got handled by some young boxer. Holmes vs Ali, Duran vs Joppy, Tyson in his last fights. I know it's "tradition" but it never ceases to bother me. Getting out worked by a younger, quicker fighter is one thing but getting beat is another.

Visually, the Foreman Alex Stewart fight was tough to watch.

It's the darkest thing I've ever heard from boxing. Outright sick.

I think he was apologetic later but completely ignorant at the time of the knockout.

Anytime someone dies or suffers permanent brain damage due to a fight is pretty disgusting in my book.

Even though Gerald McClellan may have been a piece of **** in real life, it's an unbelievably high penalty to have paid to step into the ring. Far worse than death as far as I'm concerned. But if disgusting relates to the activities of a boxer, or ref, then perhaps this doesn't qualify but since the question makes no reference to that, this is my answer.

I would say the single most disgusting thing was the creation of the NBA. This led to the creation of the WBA who then 'fathered' the WBC, IBF and WBO; and no doubt now has some grandkiddies too!

My point everything; all the crooks, all the robberies, all the dodgy officials and the promotional relationships. All the corrupt rules that fleece fighters and fans is directly linked to that day someone thought of creating the 'NBA'...

There were crooks in boxing before the various world sanctioning bodies.

    But, yes, there were fewer.

For me it was Paul Burke in a commonwealth title fight in Zambia repeatedly knocking out an African fighter (Felix bwalya) and they kept ringing the bell to save the home fighter. Finally the African is saved from another knockout in the last round when they ring the bell early, his fans lift him off the floor onto their shoulders in celebration before he wakes up ...and the unconscious African guy, with his fans pretending he's awake, not only gets the decision in an absolute robbery but also slips into a coma and dies!!

. It was a crazy fight in Africa for the commonwealth light welterweight title in 1997. I remember watching the celebration on the news, poor felix was being thrown up and down but he had gone limp yet still his well wishers were moving his hands for him like he was waving and stuff. I could not believe what I was seeing! Terrible, terrible moment that has haunted be ever since.

Boxing was far from pure before multiple sanctioning bodies and basically everything you listed was already in existence. None of that is even close to some of the brutal stiff listed in this thread.

The Burke thing sounds like there are conflicting reports. He supposedly went on a two day bender after the fight while taking malaria meds (which are basically toxic). But it does sound like the fight was intentionally ended so he could win a decision.
    https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Felix_Bwalya
The Wiki stuff was basically cut and pasted from the NY Times.

    Burke has his version:

Most likely, it was a combination of Bwalya being concussed and then destroying himself, but the conditions of the event sounded like an embarrassment.

I saw highlights on a TV news report. Felix was "out" and they were throwing him up and down. His neck was slack and his eyes closed head jerking around unsupported as he was thrown about. I never forgot that.

I think at the time there was some kind of Grant enabling poorest country's to stage commonwealth title fights and they had nothing profesional in place. The people there were so desperate to win that fight it seemed.

The last round was about 60 odd seconds long in order to "save" Felix again.

Burke was interviewed and it was awkward for him because you could see how he was both outraged about the result and dreadfully sorry for Felix. It really was awful having to watch him try and lodge a complaint under the circumstances. I think he somehow was awarded something but the whole thing was disgracfull.

In one of those articles it says the government funded it because nobody could pull it off privately. Burke denied there being a ringside doctor.
