He seems to have pretty openly ducked Williams by cancelling and fighting some journeyman a week later. But, does he have a reason?
^it looks like he blatantly ducked Williams, I agree. But he must have given a reason. Haven't seen it reported. Was a fan of the Pav of the Miranda and Taylor fights, but its getting difficult to support him.
I think Polymath is refering to the fact that he was too sick to take a 12/5 fight with Williams but healthy for a 12/19 fight with Espino. I like Pavlik and I would also like to hear some kind of justification for it. Because it does look very odd.
I thought the same way, but I'm not sure how recent the picture I saw was. Cancelling a fight for health reasons, then scheduling another 2 weeks later just makes no sense. Fine, he needs the money (I guess) and/or isn't 100%, but I can't see it as anything other than flat out avoidance. The clincher is that it is a $40 ppv fight. That's just an insult.
http://www.***********.com/?m=show&id=23361 it was just a chase of bad timing, Pavlik injured his hand and tried to make the fight happen for as long as possible by delaying it. i know id be doing the same, shouting at my hand come on heal. Pavlik needed Williams, he wants a big fight. Where else can he go.
Its the fighter that makes the belts and im sure you would agree with that, but in this case it looks like Pavlik believes the belts make him. Having him keep them and then to defend against guys like Rubio and Lockett does make him look bad. Pavlik should just vacate it, let someone else emerge and once hes healthy again comeback to kick their ass.
He took this fight so he does not get his belts stripped. I don't think he's going to be 100% and camp Pav. seems to believe his opponent is not good enough to give him any problems even though Pav. is not 100%. Stupid move in my opinion. This infection crap has reared it's head time and again and here he is training while he's still compromised. Team Pav. should have told the sanctioning bodies to shove it, we're not fighting till we are ready.
I agree. Ten thousand people are coming out of the woodwork perceiving it as a duck so its bad for his public image. It will be interesting to see what Kellerman says about it. But he secured both his major belts with the defense. But he will likely look like **** in there. He hasn't closed his fist in a long time. Only recently did that. PW didn't want to wait for the fight anymore undestandably so. Pavlik isn't ready for PW coming off this infection. If Paul wins he and Pav can fight next year.
I never thought pavlik would dodge someone. Just means Paul Williams is that much more of a scary beast.
