Who does the winner face? Where does the loser go? Will Adonis man-up and face the winner? What does a win do for Ward's legacy? What does a win do for Kov's legacy?
For me the winner will have 2-3 more fights in his division then move up or drain. Just not enough contenders and no big names. The idea for the triology is absolutely possible, since there is almost no one good as them. Adonis is shot, he will just wait for the big payday and get blasted by both Kovalev and Ward.
If it's close, I expect a rematch. If Kova wins, I expect he tries to get Stevenson or Beterbiev next (Duva sent offers to both of them earlier this year btw). Failing that, either Gvozdyk (if he beats Chilemba) or perhaps one of the organizations is going to order a mandatory or something. If Ward wins, I really have no idea. I guess he would take someone a little easier first (Shabranssky?) and then go after Stevenson. De Gale vs Ward/Kovalev could be an outside chance for 2017 if he beats Jack, he's mentioned he wants the winner.
Trilogy would be good if the fight is close. If one of them gets KO'd in the first half of the fight or at all, I doubt they'd have a rematch.
Honestly, I don't think Stevenson deserves the winner. He should fight the loser in the spring/summer time and the winner of that match can go ahead and unify next winter against the Kovalev/Ward winner. Adonis might be the lineal champ, but he's really taken on some embarrassing competition for a while now. At this juncture, I'd probably rate the loser of Ward-Kovalev higher than Stevenson.
First option is most likely a rematch if the fight and ppv sales play out right. If either guy can work with Haymon then there are a lot of nice options-Stevenson and Beterbiev or someone moving up like Degale, Jack, or the Dirrells. If they can't work with Haymon then the options thin out but there's still some there but not as attractive-Shabransky, Gvozdyk, and Smith who all three have big fights coming up first. Or maybe someone like Yunieski Gonzalez or Gilberto Ramirez if he wants to move up. Of course there's always the possibility of getting a really big fight with Golovkin but that's a two divison jump and he's probably much more interested in staying at 160 and waiting for Alvarez.
Ward Vs Stevenson will be next, for LHW title unification. It will be a huge event. Hunter is now training Fonfara, and Fonfara says he is learning a lot and picking up many tricks from sparring with Ward. Ward becomes the undisputed LHW champion in 2017!
