What's the purpose of Floyd asking a rematch clause with Mosley?

Discussion in 'World Boxing Forum' started by fytelod, Apr 13, 2010.

  1. I'm pretty sure he always has rematch clauses. In fact, a rematch clause is pretty much standard in big money title fights like this.

As Floyd says, "If it makes dollars, it makes sense."

If Mayweather loses any fight, there will be tremendous interest in a return bout...its smart boxing business.

Is it really standard practice? I haven't heard rematch clause for PAC-Cotto or PAC-Hatton or even Floyd-Hatton or Floyd-Oscar. Just correct me if I'm wrong.

  5. there were rematch clauses in his other fights, but this is the only fight where they explicitly mentioned it. They are doing this to rile up you gullible and naive ass mu****as.

Mosley may have the belt, but he's basically the challenger. He wants that P4P status and the money Floyd brings.

Floyd doesn't have the P4P title, it belongs to someone else that's why if ever Mosley defeats Floyd, I want him to go after the P4P title instead of being forced to a rematch with Floyd.

Yes it will be bigger, I'm sure a lot would still want to see how Mayweather will deal with Mosley after a KO like that and how his performance/confidence will be. The 24/7 all alone would attract a lot of people to see Mayweather's comments up close about the first loss and what he plans to do to avenge it.

If Mayweather would not pursue a rematch clause he wouldn't have made one anyway, this is boxing and like everyone knows a brutal KO or even death is very possible in the ring. Mayweather sure as hell knows this the most like all fighters do as they sign for a fight and step in the ring.

its because if floyd loses like he did to castillo, he gets an immediate chance to redeem himself.

Lennox did it. Rebounding from a brutal KO but I doubt Floyd will follow Lennox example and pursue a rematch after being KO'ed cold. KO'ed once will be a disaster for Floyd, KO'ed twice will be total disarray at this point of his career.

  15. Mayweather loves his rematch clauses. I know for a fact there was one in the contract for Mayweather vs. De La Hoya. The other ones you mentioned I'm not so sure about... But there has been plenty of other fights not involving Mayweather, Pacquiao, or Mosley that had the clause.. Lewis vs. Rahman comes to mind, as does Valuev vs. Ruiz.
