What's the real reason boxing has declined in the US and there are less top level guys from the US?

People used to argue that theyre all jumping ship to UFC, but I always found that to be a bit overblown....

And I've never bought the argument that theyre playing in the NBA....very few NBA players have the body type to excel in boxibg

Just less guys partaking in America.

Talent will always fluctuate. In 10 years we may well see the second coming of Jones and Ali, then have a 10 year period of **** all. It's just what happens.

Lower testosterone levels, that's the main reason.

The rise in popularity of MLB, NFL, and NBA in the US, while boxing became more popular worldwide.

    American boxers themselves

Back then you had American boxers that actually tried and risked being great. Now to them it's all about the payday. They don't want to take risks and miss out on the cashcows .

By the way I love American fighters. The only American fighters I see today actually willing to take risks are

    Wilder
    J Rock
    Crawford
    Porter
    Spence

Honestly, I think the rise of MMA does have something to do with it, not to mention that you can make a ton of money in other sports without getting your head kicked in. I also think that the expansion of the pro sport to the former soviet territories has raised the bar somewhat in terms of the talent pool. If you subtract all those guys American boxers would probably be dominating. So a bit of many factors, imho.

That's a good question. If the pool has shrunk it would be an answer in of itself.

We live in a more protected society. Maybe that has something to do with it. Kids playgrounds aren’t even that good anymore because they were considered too dangerous so you think all the moms and dads want their kids to box? No way.
