I notice Marcos Maidana (the only one who comes to mind, but anyone else) consistently....when he gets knocked down, gets up stretches to his toes, and then sits down with his hands up (makes the ref touch them) THEN gets back up as the count is finishing.

What is the official ruling on such a thing? I was always under the impression that getting kncoked down and sitting down would be an automatic stoppage... but I guess not so much if you can show the ref you are responding well after the knockdown?

I'm not sure but weirdly I was just watching Aaron Pryor do exactly the same thing in his comeback fight and he got counted out.

If you fall back down the ref will stop it. If you show the ref you are coherent and just taking advantage of the full count he likely will let it go on.
