Curry's hook is noticeably more compact tho the follow thru on both is short. McCallum thru the course of the exchange had slipped his left foot back and his feet were square on with his shoulders rotated to where his lead shoulder had gotten further away from Curry, almost in a southpaw position if you will. He'd also gotten low into his left foot. The amount of shoulder rotation available was huge as he pivoted/thrust around and up off that planted left foot. TBH Curry probably should not have been hit with that but it was always going to be a big shot if he was. McCallum, not a huge hitter, really got plenty into that hook. Little wonder it makes highlight reels and threads.

That right hand was just window dressing but if the bout had been stopped no doubt the losing party would have been screaming blue murder.

A couple come to mind. Morrison's hook that floored Ruddock, how did Ruddock get up from that?
Cooney's hook to the body that put Ron Lyle through the ropes. Lyle looked like a lawn chair being folded up.

Leonard vs. Davey Boy Green still resonates with me.

The body shot Mickey Ward put on Gatti in round 9.

Donald's swelling on his eye was probably a factor in what happened. He almost backed up peering with his head lifted a little which could have been a distraction enough. Mike in my mind was too strong for Donald and the eye swelling could very well have been the factor. Most of the commentary or talk about this fight I have heard seems to say that Donald was winning until that punch, but I saw the fight as Mike taking over even in round 4. Landing nice body punches. So who knows. I do not recall much talk for a rematch.

Frazier had 3; Ali #1. Ellis #1. Bob Foster. And Joe is landing against some top flight competition there. Lesser opponents are ruined from those shots.

Although my favorites are the 2nd round left hook from Curry against McCrory and the second knockdown in the 4th round by Frazier over Ellis in their first fight, I was always mildly amused by 3 heavyweight left hooks which landed in similar fashion. The most famous of the three is the Frazier left hook on Ali in their first fight in the 15th round. But also watch the left hook Marciano lands on Joe Louis in the 8th round for the first knockdown. Also the left hook Jack Sharkey decks Primo Carnera with in the 4th round of their first fight. All three leaping left hooks from the same vantage point of the film which dropped them in the same spot on the left side (of the film). I guess I'm easily amused, but they were all three kick-arse left hooks.

The left hook Jersey Joe Walcott landed on Ezzard Charles to knock him out was phenomenal.

Eduardo Lausse vs Chico Varona. Lausse hit Varona with a wicked left hook that damn near broke Varona's leg. That's right, his leg.

To me it was hybrid hook/uppercut, it was both but i would still call it a left hook.

The follow thru is more hook than uppercut.

The General forum went nuts after that KO.
