Ali did a great job doing that. He did it with Frazier, Foreman and Liston.

When someone still hates you 38 years after a fight you know things are bad.

 

He motivated DLH more than annoy him, DLH admitted he needed someone like that to get motivated again and Mayweather followed right after Mayorga. Some fighters just need that kind of motivation to get some fire back when they're inactive or lose interest.

 

That just confirms how great Ali really was in my view, even years later you see Frazier still bitter and pissed off about their trilogy while Ali couldn't care much about it. He just had that affect on his opponents and this is Frazier we're talking about, Frazier is no chump and is a top 10 Heavyweight ATG.

 

Ali/Liston. I mean, that taunting really defined his ability to gain the psychological edge over his opponents. If you can intimidate and bother someone like Liston, you were doing something special.

in the weigh-in Ali completely went mad, the best piece of acting ever gettin so worked up, making himself sweat and forcing the doctors to examine him, made Liston think he was actually insane, the fight was won before the first bell

Ali/Frazier is the obvious answer.

One that hasn't been mentioned: Terell and Ali... Ernie really pissed Ali off. Of course, in this case, it bit him on the ass big-time, but he definitely got under Ali's skin.

 

anyone remember Ali vs Shavers in the latter rounds when Shavers catches Ali with a huge right, Ali is clearly hurt and ready to go then he suddenly clowns and shakes his legs to act like he was hurt and then invites shavers in. Shavers then steps back thinking Ali is pretending and is trying to set a trap, shavers looses his opportunity to get the KO and looses the fight when Ali unleashes in the final round almost stopping shavers
