Coming up to 10 months of inactivity after Tank beat the limited social media star Ryan Garcia. What is he doing with his career? Dude is 29 and still hasn’t stepped up. At this point I wouldn’t be surprised if he continues cherry picking until the end of his career.
29 is young. Times have changed. People keep themselves in better shape nowadays and they know how too. At least he actually fights and doesn't fake injury on multiple occasions or jumps divisions, ghosts then retires.
Shakur Stevenson? what happened to her? She retired. Devin Haney - Loma beat him. Haney is good though. He fights whoever he has too. Where he has too. He killed Prograis. Who else can he fight? Lloyd Braun? Vito Spadafora? Paul Spadafora?
Haney is 25 and has fought Lomachenko, Kambosos twice, and Prograis. He doesn’t, instead he’s wasting some of the best years of his prime fighting for regular titles and not challenging the best. I rate him highly as a fighter, but I do not like the direction he has gone in.
Tank has plenty of great options including Lopez, Haney, Matias, and Stevenson (who isn’t retired he’s just being an idiot). Martin would be a step in the right direction if that happens. He doesn't need to fight for another regular title against a b level contender.
Tank is overrated because he hasn't beaten a top fighter but is compared to great fighters. He needs to fight Loma or Stevenson (retired?) or Teo at 140. He is taking easy money fights over glory. That's his prerogative but he will have a subpar career, regardless of the number of losses.
The only American around those weight classes who actually has a good resume is Teofimo, who beat the man at 135 and 140, and also was the first man to KO Commey to first become a champion. Haney's resume is hugely overrated. His only win of note is a much inferior win over a worse version of Loma. He got lucky that an unskilled D-level gatekeeper in Kambosos fluked his way into the 3 remaining belts at lightweight. And it was evident to everyone who watched Prograis vs Zorilla that Prograis was shot to pieces. Sure, Tank has been overprotected his entire career which is frustrating to watch, but is undefeated Pedraza, Isaac Cruz and undefeated Ryan Garcia, really that much worse than old Loma, shot to pieces Prograis and Kambosos? Take out Haney's hugely debated "win" over Loma and I'm not confident his resume is better than Tank's at all.
I largely agree with this take except I think Lomachenko at 35 (I believe that’s how old he was) was still miles better than anyone Tank ever fought. The decision was dubious but Haney at least fought the guy. I much prefer fighters like Chisora who fight anyone even if they lose every time. Better to step up than continue cherry picking. Prograis was shot but again asides from Barrosso, Pedraza, and Cruz, I wouldn’t compare anyone else Tank has fought to him. My main point really is Tank is overprotected and massively overrated by some fans based on who he has beaten. I think he’s hugely talented and could become a p4p star, I have him beating Haney if they ever fight.
