A month or so ago, we had 'reports' that there would be an announcement of him re-signing to fight Hughie Fury, this time in the UK. That announcement, near as I can tell, never came. Hughie has since announced he will fight in July (is that set?) and again in September, IIRC. So that would seem to be off, at least for now. And regardless, with Hughie opting to take a tune-up then Parker should be free to pursue other options. Wilder's team has tried to make a unification with Parker and all is quiet on both fronts. Could that fight be in the making, or is Parker taking his WBO title and gone into hiding?
He has signed to fight Hughie Fury in Manchester, September 23. It's official, you must have missed it. This content is protected The unification with Wilder is unrealistic for both parties as they both have mandatory commitments. Parker will not go into hiding, he is not that type of fighter.
Every organization says unification trumps mandatories. Could have easily been worked out. I did miss the announcement. Rather low-key, I have to say. So why does boxrec have Hughie fighting TWICE in July? Different dates and locations. And Parker has no one but himself to blame when Hughie pulls out again and leaves him dry humped ... I mean high and dry.
It would have required two sets of step-aside fees, Parker's team did contact the WBO to see if they could get out of fighting Hughie. I'll be annoyed if Hughie pulls out again, but I don't see what Parker could do about it. He wanted to explore other options, but wasn't allowed to as the WBO accepted Hughie's "doctor" evidence.
I don't think he is on the Blackpool card now. I could be wrong, but I think he just has the tune up fight this Saturday in London.
You do realise Hughies warm up fights are warm up fights for the September showdown with Joe? Theyre not against a Deontay Wilder. So based on Hughies warm up fight, you feel Joe should have a warm up fight against Deontay Wilder? You did mention this as a reason for Joe to fight Wilder. You probably should think about that cos it doesn't seem fair that Hughie gets to warm up against a nobody while Joe 'warms up' with Wilder. Yep you did miss the announcement and another thing you missed is that the WBO has ordered Joe to fight Hughie. Joe is simply following orders. Besides, those that know, know Joe tried to get a fight with Wilder in December 2016. Wilder had 2 options 1. Parker or 2. Wawryzk. We all know who Wilder picked. Those are the facts.
I feel if Hughie pulled out of a world title fight for having worms or back trouble or whatever, and then schedules another fight, then the champion should be able to say "I'll deal with you later but I'm fighting a mandatory." Period. He shouldn't have to sit on the sideline while Hughie gets to fight. If Fury takes a fight, then he can wait. And if he's fighting this weekend (or next), does he even have an opponent? Does the other guy at least get to run around the block a couple of times to warm up?
Massive fight in the UK with Hughie Fury. Joseph Parker is the second best active Heavyweight in my estimation. Parker is above novice level Wilder but currently below Joshua. If Parker wasn't a great champion Hughie would never fight him. Parker is a great fighter but Hughie is evem better.
What if this, what if that...with Hughie pulling out on the May fight night, Joe vs Hughie has simply prolonged and its fair to blame Hughie. Hughie has been called a chicken and fair enough but Joe has unfairly copped some flak too, for example, the prolonging of this fight has seen people ask when is Wilder vs Parker, especially now that Dillian Whyte is calling out Wilder. Some Wilder fans maybe looking to divert the attention away from Wilder for not fighting Whyte and choosing Parker as their scapegoat. Thats unfair as people don't truly understand Joes situation. The champ should be able to have his way as you mentioned but the WBO is different from the WBC. As we've seen with the WBC - champions can get voluntary defences against lower ranked opponents instead of fighting no.1 contenders. Thats not the case with the WBO so far with Joe, he doesn't seem to have as much control. Just look at where the fight is now! The champion Joe tried to get the fight in the champs home country but now the champ has to fight for his own title in the mandatory challengers (Hughie Fury) country (England). A champion fighting overseas for a unification or against a lowly ranked opponent is ok but this fight is seen as Joes toughest ever fight.
My great posts are too numerous to count. Hell. I told the Klitschko fans that Tyson Fury was gonna F up Kltschko and they all laughed in me face
Povetkin vs Parker I see happening next year. If he gets pass fury and I think he will. Wilder who knows Stiverne 2 (ugh) and then probably some more non top 10 type of guys.
What? The WBO is different? Different in that they allowed Parker to fight his own sparring partner in a defense? You're saying Andy Ruiz was a mandatory? And now Hughie Fury? Those are the "top guys" he's being forced to fight? He could have worked something out for a unification with Wilder if he was interested in doing so, it's a unification and even the WBO rules say that takes precedence ... especially if he had worked to make the fight right after Hughie pulled out and it was unknown when he might return. Fury fighting this month is another opportunity to say 'I'm not waiting for you' -- what's the WBO's position if Hughies loses, or gets cut and needs months to heal or breaks his hand, etc.? You think that fight happens in September if Hughie so much as gets a hangnail or imagines that his hair isn't right? You are so naive.
