You're going too far here. Martinez is miles away from greatness. Any way you want to look at it, he falls well short of being considered great. He's a good fighter with exceptional athletic ability. Nothing more.
Anyone close to 147 that starts winning or getting some attention, turns into THE guy that will beat Floyd. Martinez is no different. There is nothing special about Martinez at all. Two years from now, maybe sooner, nobody will be talking about him. Floyd beats him, so does Chavez jr or even Ward if he had the balls to fight him at 168, like he has the balls to chase welterweights around.
Far from a Martinez fan, but.... After Cintron the joke "You have to KO him to get the draw" was officially no longer a joke. He had Paul Williams seriously hurt in the first round of their first fight yet the judges gave that round to Williams? Nuff said there. Martinez started late so an early loss to Margarito doesn't mean as much. But, overall I agree Martinez is over rated. He got to be P4P beating Kermit "The Frog" Cintron, Paul "My defense is stopping punches with my face" Williams and Kelly "I was in rehab instead of training camp" Pavlik? :huh
if you wanna get serious. Kellys 2 Wins over jermaine Taylor and win Over Miranda is by far better than sergio's record. What I dont understand is how everyone loved Kelly when he was champ. but he loses 2 fights, 1 being to a Future HOF and Sergio Martinez and now Kelly was just Over-rated all along and Sergio is now The man???
In ESB you're only as good as your last performance :deal If Pavlik returns from rehab kicking asses and taking names people will be all over him again If Sergio somehow loses against Chavez he'll be below bum level
Yeah it is a bunch of nonsense. all he does these days is beat everybody they put in front of him and knock most of them out. Middle weight champ. what is the deal with all that hype anyways?
