    Exactly!
Early on in the fight, Cotto dug hard to Margarito's body, to which Margartio responded with over 10 punches of nonstop battering to Cotto's own body.
In the midst of Margarito's 10 punch rally to Cotto body, Cotto rattled Margarito with a couple of shots to his head, but it never detered Margarito to even pause his nonstop battering to Cotto's midsection.

That right there was a statement to Cotto. You're going to hit me to the body, you're going to pay 10 fold!!!

    Where was Cotto's bodywork?
Its not wise to invest a body shot when you're going to have to pay for it 10 fold.

The truth is that Margarito had an answer for everything Cotto tried.
.....and Cotto tried just about everything.

Nobody is making excuses for Cotto. He gave of his best and failed. He seems to think he has a chance to avenge is loss and is asking to try again. You are just manufacturing reasons (read : excuses) to bring Cotto's loss up so that you can crow about it some more. :good

Cotto had a great gameplan, unfortonetly for him he's not Floyd Mayweather Jr.

He should have stuck to what he knew, intead of trying to replicate the style of the 1 guy who would be a sure thing against Margarito.

I'm not even sure Cotto really wants the rematch. It seems like Arum is really pushing and pressuring him into the rematch and I don't think that's wise. Ideally he should spend several fights against other worthy opponents and make some money before deciding whether to go back into the lion's den or not. Chances are Margarito will probably be at 154 within two years at any rate.

And i say that as not a fan of either Margarito or Cotto...i seen the fight Margarito is nothing special he doesn't even punch hard he has a tough chin and overwhelms you if Cotto can stay in his chest and move accordingly and when he wants to he'll beat Margarito easily...he backed into more of Margarito's punches than anything he really beat himself that night...thats what i take from that fight and i said Margarito would win.

1-"Cotto will go to the body early and often." People argue that Cotto going to the body will open him and leave him vulnerable for Margo's punches. Well, Cotto knows if that's true and if that's the case, it doesn't change the fact that Margarito is probably the slowest elite fighter around, and what Cotto should focus on is countering to Margo's ribs when Margarito is the one opening up (and trust me, Margarito leaves plenty of opportunities to be countered to the ribs where it hurts the most because you're already exhaling air to throw your own shot, which is what happened to Cotto in the second round of their fight).

2-"Cotto will keep the fight in the center of the ring." He should keep Margarito guessing, heck, he should keep us all guessing by mixing it up, but being aware not to get hammered by uppercuts and body shots.

3-"Cotto will neutralize the uppercuts." What I personally think Cotto should do to avoid this is move his head laterally, don't let him self be a stationary target. I don't know why he didn't try it. It was the first thing my trainer told me when I started sparring.

4-"Cotto will back Margie up." I think this is unlikely, and Cotto's best chance is to weaken Margo to the body, avoid getting hurt, and win more rounds in order to get the decision.

5-"Cotto's stamina will not be an issue with "Excessive Training" this time." I don't know if Cotto did excessive training. I would like to know the source for that. But improving his stamina is definitely a great idea, and like some have said, he should really isolate himself and train in high mountains. And of course, not over train, although I'm not sure if he did the first time.

6-"Cotto can adjust game plans....he has demonstrated that in almost every fight." He has shown adjustment ability, but he didn't show enough against Margarito. But, lucky for Cotto this is a rematch and he has the first fight to learn from.It would be ideal if he doesn't get to the point where he would need to adjust to win.

    just my two cents.

Contrary to the opinion of many, Cotto was getting hit way too often early in the fight. He's gotta figure out how to make Margo miss more, get out of the way of the body shots and defend against that uppercut. Have'nt watched it all for a while but I think I remember Cotto taking some genuine low blows from Marg. If that happens in the rematch he's gotta take a knee to catch a breath and to give the ref. something to think about.

I have to agree to some extent. Cotto gave one of his best performances, and he did the best he could. It's funny to me that people think that that was the best Margarito could do. IMO, that was a C+ Margarito against an A+ Cotto. But we'll see in the rematch. Most definately.

This was the best Cotto and best AM. Cotto may not have the style to beat AM, but he has correctable mistakes that he can capitalize in the rematch. Even he has to realize that he has to fight center ring, and then move, and get back to center ring and use defense. But like a proud champ that AM is, he will know this, and capitalize also. Am brought his A game the first fight and so did Cotto. Neither fighter brought less than the other.

  :lol:Cotto should have done this, he should have dont that......
......Cotto will do this and that in the rematch......
.....goodness, as if Margarito will have his hands tied during all of this.
    :nut

The fight was extremely close on my card at the time of stoppage. I had Margarito up by a point.......the difference maker between them which I think is clear as day, is that Margarito is a throwback, having the stamina to go 15 rounds, while Cotto and especially because he was being backed down by a bigger body, only has the stamina to fight 10.

I just dont see that changing in a rematch.

You contradict yourself. You say both brought their A games, but then go on to say that Cotto made a bunch of mistakes.

The facts are that Cotto did everything you say he should do in a rematch, and still got battered!

People, Cotto should do alot of things, but you guys have to realize that Margarito is'nt going to have his hands tied behind his back.

true but to be honest cotto isn't a 'smart' fighter.

he still gets hit way too easily when he's in trouble (his go low and his head doesn't move), but that's a classic bad habit of a come forward puncher.

    He's not contradicting himself.
    Cotto's A-game could have flaws.
A fighter bringing his A-game doesn't mean fighting the perfect fight, it means fighting at the best of his (boxing) abilities at the time of the fight.
